One year ago I started this blog. I thought I would share the story and do a little celebrating with you on this milestone. I am an Interior Designer and I love creating. I love my job! I make displays and am in charge of the visual presentation in 17 furniture stores, but for years I have had this little voice in my head whispering “what if there’s so much more to me?” I know that I am not the only one to ever feel this feeling, but I held back. I didn’t do the side jobs or the projects outside of work that I was yearning to do. I played small.
This quote if from a song “Pocketful of Poetry” by one of my favorite singers Mindy Gledhill
In February of 2015 I had a baby at 29 years old. I am from Utah and the culture here is that 29 is old for having children and then until you have kids, you are less than. I am sad to admit that I fell into the trap of believing that. I didn’t even consciously know I believed it! But I did and I held myself back because of it. So I had my sweet baby Don and I felt liberated- I got over my fears and decided to not listen to the voices in my head that said “you’re not enough” or “who do you think you are?” Or at least I didn’t listen to them quite so much- haha. I talked to my husband and had a whole presentation on why I should start my blog, the costs, the dreams and goals I had, and he said yes. I can’t tell you how awesome it felt! I was ready to conquer the world! Don was 6 months old and we were getting in a great schedule and groove. So I dove in.
This is a photo from the night I talked my husband into letting me start a blog. A very happy memory 🙂
I won’t tell you that it was easy. The learning curve is high, but I love it. At first I had no clue if anyone was even reading my blog and if all of the time I was spending on it was worth it. I went to a blog conference in February of 2016 and it was hard for me. I didn’t know anyone and I really felt like I was putting myself out there. But I learned a lot of stuff that really changed the trajectory of my blog. My social media numbers grew and I was started to be offered sponsored posts and product to review. It was SO fun to watch this little dream of mine grow. Bit by bit I have made over my home. My living room, entry, and deck have had the biggest transformations and I can’t wait to see what the next year brings!
I wanted to take the time to say THANK YOU! Thank you for reading and commenting and helping me achieve my dreams! I love sharing my home and story with you! If you read this post and any of sounds familiar- the calling to do more than you are doing. The feeling that you are playing small and that there is more to you. Here is what I am asking you to do- fly. Or take the first step towards freedom because you were meant to fly, you were meant to live a great life.
