Thanksgiving is a few days away. Honestly, it’s a hard year. For the first time ever, we won’t be celebrating with extended family. Don has requested to zoom his grandma while he eats. He misses her so. Sigh. Though this year feels so much different, I’m still going to do my best to make it special! I thought I’d share with you some Thanksgiving tablescape DIY’s.
Oh Christmas Tree
Thanksgiving is next week and well, I’ve had a Christmas tree sitting in my garage and couldn’t wait any longer to put it up! Every year I put my tree up sometime in November, but this time felt extra special since I’ve never decorated this house for the holidays. And after 2020 being so dreadful, this girl needed some magic!
Kitchen Renovation Update
On October 21st, we started renovation on our kitchen. My goal then (and still kind of now) is to finish before Thanksgiving. That’d be a 5 week time period from demo to completion. Which is crazy for a kitchen! But can we do it?! I want to show you where we are now, tell you the good news, and go over the to do list we still need to tackle for this kitchen renovation update.
Then you can decide if you think we can make it for Thanksgiving!
DIY Rainbow Turkey
Halloween passed and I’m still not ready for Christmas decor. So here I am, making little rainbow turkeys. This year we’ll spend Thanksgiving in Florida and it’ll probably be just our little family. I’m guessing lots of people will have smaller gatherings this year. Which means more time to pay attention to the special little details. One DIY rainbow turkey per place setting sounds adorable to me!
DIY Lego Table- IKEA Hack
I’ve been wanting to create a Lego table for Don. His favorite toy to play with are Lego so I figured a proper set-up would be ideal! Now he has a dedicated space and- major bonus- there are WAY less bricks spread across the room! Plus I think it looks cute. Here’s how to make a DIY Lego table Ikea hack.
How to Make your Own Wood Filler
I was recently redoing my Thonet rocking chair and wanted to keep a natural finish. There were some small cracks and holes in the wood I found as I sanded the chair down. But I really wanted the patches to match the sanded finish. So instead of using the wood filler I’d bought, I decided to make my own. Want to try too? Here’s how to make your own wood filler.
Thonet Bentwood Rocking Chair
In 2003 I went to Interior Design school at FIDM in Los Angelos. One of my favorite classes was on the history of furniture. I remember a book my professor suggested- 1000 Chairs. It had all of the chairs I’d learned and many more. One of them, the Thonet bentwood rocking chair (pronounced tho-nay) stood out.
When I was little, this rocking chair was in our house. It didn’t seem special, just a background piece in my memories. I’m a very nostalgic person so when I was thrifting and found a kids size Bentwood rocking chair for $25 in perfect condition, I swooped it right up!
Planning kitchen storage and organization during a reno
We are in week 2 of our kitchen remodel. The best thing happened this week when my husband announced that we were done tearing things apart and were now moving towards putting things back! It’s mostly him doing the hard work right now so I’ve been planning kitchen and organization for once we can put everything back.
How to Paint an Ombre Wall
I started a fun project yesterday- painting my garage. It was just a boring black, but I thought it’d be fun to paint it in a gradient of color going from white to pink for a bit of a sunset vibe. I love a good ombre moment, so I grabbed some paint I had on hand and spent a few hours painting! Here’s how to paint an ombre wall.
