In my living room and my dining room I used to have beautiful damask thick drapes. Than 8 years passed and I was over them. I switched the ones out in the dining room, and it finally was time to update the living room ones. The damask ones kept sneaking into pictures and I thought “puke!” so I was on the hunt for drapes on a budget.
One of my top hints for finding something on a budget is to be prepared. Have money set aside for it and have your measurements handy. I knew I was looking for 84″ long drapes when I was in a Down East Home location and spotted this:
I found two panels- both for $14.99 on clearance. One was the perfect size for my windows- 44″wx84″l. The other one was $96″ long, but I figured I could easily alter them. I purchased them and was super excited to find out that they were doing a 25% off clearance sale, so I got both for $23!!!
These are the Harper Blackout Panel from Pottery Barn Kids (technically meant for a nursery) and sell for $89 a panel!!! So that would be $178 for two before shipping and I got two for $23- such a good deal!
I laid them down on my carpet and folded the 96″ length over til it was the same length as the 84″ panel
I then pinned the fabric in place so that I could sew a straight length (pretty much connecting the pins) and create a pole pocket for the drapery rod. If I could do this again. I would use a ruler to mark a straight line since my sewing didn’t end up being 100% straight (learn from my mistakes :))
I pulled out my sewing machine and quickly sewed a straight (ish) line and I was ready to hang! Here is where the room was before I switched out the drapes:
And after the new drapes were up:
