Good Morning! Do you know what I love? I love the journey a house takes as it evolves with your family. For example, our second bedroom used to be an office with a tiny desk. We never went in there and it became a room for junk to gather (I know I’m not the only one with this problem, right?). Well, we were expecting the baby so we turned the office into a nursery, sold the desk, and shoved our office stuff in half of the baby’s closet. It was a mess! I wish I would have taken a before picture, but picture a filing cabinet with a printer on top of it and papers shoved everywhere. Not pretty and not convenient. Then I was on Pinterest and kept seeing desks in living rooms. It got me thinking- I need a desk! I have extra space in my living room! So we saved up and bought a living room desk.
- needed to fit in the space we had (so 56″-60″ long)
- needed a filing drawer for our paperwork
- we wanted it white so it would blend in with the walls
- lots of storage space
I bought this (ugly) shelf from a thrift store for $2. My husband was able to remove the scalloped hook part and I painted it white. I love it now!
I bought a bulletin board from the thrift store and painted it white. I will have a tutorial later this week for it! If you like cheap and easy DIYs, check back 🙂
Budget blooms from the grocery store. These dozen roses were only $4!
My cameras never had a place to live, I think the desk is their perfect new home!
If you are hoping for desk styling tips, you are in luck! Check back later and I will show you the desks that inspired me and a list of items you can use when styling your own desk.
You can see a close-up of the painted paper holder (that has some thank you cards). I washi taped some inspirational quotes to my bulletin board
The box above the filing cabinet holds our printer!
Want a decorating on a budget tip? Buy frames from the thrift shop! They are only a $1 each and then you can paint them any color that will match your decor!
Derek the dog approves 🙂
