Hi Guys! My mind has been buzzing with resolutions for the New Year! I have big plans for 2017 and some goals for how to get there.
I started out with making myself a pretty New Year’s resolution form and figured that you guys would like one too. So I made it a free printable! To download it, you just need to fill out this form:
Here are my resolutions:
Create an Emergency fund for One Year’s worth of expenses- One of my most popular set of posts have been my get out of debt posts. The posts have free printables and tons of inspiration so if you are in debt paying off mode, definitely check them out! My husband and I paid off over $40k of debt which has equaled freedom for us. If I can help one person with that journey, it would make me so happy. I am on the Dave Ramsey plan and the next step for financial freedom for our family is to create an emergency fund. We have a small one right now of $3,000 (which we never touch- we’ve found that now that we are out of debt we can deal with emergencies out of our checking account as they arise), but want to have $24,000- or one years worth of expenses. Dave Ramsey actually only suggests 3-6 months of funds, but we have big plans (stay posted!!!) and want to have a long runway for those plans. We hope to have this complete by August 1st. I will post again when that happens! We should have created an emergency fund a year ago, but we weren’t focused on it. Here’s a secret- is you are saving without a goal, it’s torture and seems pointless. Now that my husband and I have a big dream and this savings account will be the first step in our plan, we are focused and committed! I make a thermometer for our fridge so I can track the progress because I have found that is very motivating to see where I am at. This is my biggest resolution because we have some life changing goals for the second half of the year which I will share when I can.
Make my House Prettier- of course, being a home decor blogger/interior designer, this is always my goal! This year I want to tackle a kitchen renovation. Right now I have an ugly brown laminate countertop that needs to go. I need to refinish and paint the cabinets. I would love new ones, but it’s not in the budget right now. I am also dreaming of a new back splash, faucet, sink, and lights. Most of our house is almost done so creating a beautiful kitchen only makes sense! Doesn’t a budget kitchen renovation sound fun though?! I would also like a new sofa. We had this as a goal for last year and I have a bunch of money sitting in our savings account for it. But I haven’t found my dream sofa yet. I know what I want- a grey leather Chesterfield. This year I will actually find it and replace our sofa (which has HUGE holes in the seats and sharpie marks on it #toddlerproblems).
Travel somewhere Awesome- at the end of September, my husband and I will celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary! We are hoping to travel somewhere fun- maybe Europe?! We would take Don with (because we adore him), but think a big trip would be perfect. We are also traveling to Miami in January. Travel is so important to our family to keep our perspective open and break the montomy of everyday life.
Wellness- This year I want to get back to exercising. I used to run daily but had major hip problems during pregnancy. Then I was too busy with a little baby. Now that things have slowed down a bit, I would like to make more time for exercise. I would also like to eat better- less processed foods and more real ingredients.
Speaking of eating better, as a first step we decided to try out a meal delivery service- Hello Fresh! Here’s what you do- you go online and order what you want and what delivery day you need. We decided to try butter-basted chicken, Spanish-style spaghetti, and crispy cheddar cheeseburger. The box arrived and we were excited to try it out! Everything was packaged with ice and was still nice and fresh.
We tried the spaghetti first. I prepped the veggies and got to cooking!
I loved the instructions that came with the box- they were super easy to follow. It was nice that all of the ingredients were fresh- I felt so much healthier eating them!
It turned out delicious! Don was especially a fan of this meal!
My favorite meal was the chicken- it was super juicy and I am a huge mashed potato fan (although I may have overcooked the carrots a bit- oops!):
The hamburgers were good too! My sister came over to try them out with us and we were all fans- the broccoli was my favorite part of this meal:
Here’s what I liked about Hello Fresh:
- healthy, fresh ingredients
- I tried new techniques I had never tried before
- I forget how quick it is to add a veggie side that is delicious!
- No grocery shopping
- No food waste
- No wondering what you will have for dinner
- Little to no pre-planning (it was super quick to order)
- You keep the recipe and can do it on your own if you want
- Jamie Oliver made some recipes for Hello Fresh- I am a big fan of his and will try them out next time!
My only concern about meal delivery is it’s isn’t a very green option. You have to ship the item and there is some plastic waste. Obviously the pros outweigh the negatives and I can’t wait to try it again! Have you ever tried a meal delivery service? What are your resolutions for the New Year?
