Hi Guys. So one of my favorite things is to style pretty pictures for my blog and Instagram. I love creating that perfect image shot in the perfect light. Seriously, it makes me happy! But I thought it would be refreshing to take you on a real life (with real messes) house tour. So I didn’t clean up and just took pictures of how our house actually looks. How we actually live.
Entry- My entry usually looks exactly like it did when I did my reveal a few weeks ago. However, I just decorated for Halloween so it is looking festive! The only sore thumb is the ladder that is sitting in the entry as I work on the stairs. But I am so thankful for that ladder! I am putting up trim this week in the stairs and without it I would have no way to finish that project.
Living Room- The living room is really the hub of our home and thus the messiest! There are boxes from my stairs project, toys galore, messed up pillows, and just evidence that we really live here! The desk usually has the high chair next to it so Don can’t get in the drawer with the scissors and sharpies- lol! Here’s the thing about toys everywhere and a comfy baby watching garbage truck videos after his nap- it’s all proof that we live here. I don’t want to have an immaculate home that no one can touch anything. I want there to be fun and messes and creativity.
Deck- The deck still looks pretty good. Our sign fell down after a big wind storm and we never put it back up. Don still adores his play kitchen I made for him this spring. This area has been so great to play on all summer. We will miss it in the winter- even the upkeep that it has required these past few months.
Kitchen- Our kitchen is not the prettiest. I usually don’t show it because I hate the brown countertops. But here is a sneak peek with Don playing in the dog food, a crooked rug, and messy counters #reallife. I’m grateful to have a kitchen to cook in- even if it isn’t Pinterest Perfect. I am grateful that we have running water and a garbage can so full of trash it’s overflowing. Sometimes I forget how lucky I am. I forget that there are people out there just hoping for one meal today or a warm bed tonight. My mess reminds me that although I don’t have everything, I have enough.
Hallway- a few days ago I came home from work surprised to see my husband had pulled up the carpet in the hall! That means that we are one step closer to wood floors in our main living rooms! But the floor is scary looking. At least the gallery wall still looks nice!
Nursery- Don’s room is actually pretty clean most of the time. I don’t usually show the basketball hoop my husband put up (true story- I cried when he put it up because he was “ruining” the room. Don loves it so my husband was actually right- haha). I love the book on the floor and the hamper full of dirty clothes. Don is our little miracle and we love having him in our family. He is definitely the reason for a lot of the messes in our home, but you know, he’s also responsible for a lot of the happiness too. We seriously lucked out with that little one.
Master Bedroom- I am going to be honest and say this room is probably the most embarrassing to show. We got a new mattress a month or so ago and the old mattress is still there until we can deliver it to its final home. How’s that for an eyesore?! It was laundry day so the bed actually was made for these pictures (I only make it a few days a week). The vanity really shows that I’m a little messy. But you know, I love that little corner and the luxury of being able to get ready for the day how I want. And you know, we still love our new mattress and in a few days the old one will be gone. It’s not perfect, but it’s honest.
So here’s what I wanted to leave with you- life is messy! And even if I show my house perfectly styled on Instagram, it isn’t that way 90% of the time. Being perfect is boring, and really tiring. I love my house clean, but I wanted to be real with you and share a normal day with normal messes. If you look around your home and only see what isn’t perfect, look again. What do those piles of paper mean? For me they mean that I have bills that I can afford to pay. Or projects that I get to pour your heart into. There is more to our messes than clutter.
