We moved into our little house in Florida 4 weeks ago. My husband and I have been working pretty hard to make this house feel like a home, and slowly its been coming together. I’ve loved sharing the progress with you and am excited that today I have the dining room to reveal!
BEFORE
I love a good before and after so I wanted to back up and share with you where we started. The landlord had left some of his art. We promptly stored the big statues because we were scared Don (our 2 year old) would tip them over.
Here is how the room looked with how the landlord had furnished it.
AFTER
Here is how the dining room is looking now! Light and airy with some fun pattern and color. I love it!!! I worked with Overstock on this room and they have SUCH good options for colorful furniture! Pink chairs? Check! A Floral credenza? OK! And if pink and flowers aren’t your thing, they have so many affordable and beautiful pieces.
The dining room is right off the kitchen and they really balance each other nicely.ย The counter stools added some good texture to the island to warm it up.
credenza
Design wise for the dining room, I started with the credenza. The bold pattern is so beautiful to me and when I saw it, I knew I could base a whole room on it. The credenza is very modern with clean lines which is good since the pattern has a lot going on. Inside, we store toys for my son and on top are my pretty things. You’ve got to love Florida for being able to find forsythia (the yellow blooms) in February!
mirror
Above the credenza, I really needed to hang something. I didn’t want to do art since I didn’t want to compete with the floral pattern. This rectangular brass mirror is the perfect piece- it stands on its own (design wise), but also complements the credenza with its sleek lines.
chairs
Once the credenza was selected, I searched and searched for chairs and ended up falling in love with these pink Windsor chairs. Growing up, we had 90’s oak Windsor chairs so maybe that is why I gravitated towards this updated version! The detail where they are dipped in grey paint is fun and modern to me.
table

Once the statement pieces were selected, I needed beautiful furniture that would anchor the room. I’ve always dreamed about having a tulip table and I finally have the perfect space for one! This modern piece would look good with so many different chairs, and I especially like how these two look together. Isn’t the marble top stunning?!
loveseat

The loveseat was a late addition to this room. After living in the space for awhile and realizing that it could fit a 10′ table (vs. this 4′ table that is plenty big for our needs), I thought a loveseat would be fill the room visually. This is where Don likes to sit and I like that it wipes down easily. It is so cozy and such a great bang for your buck!
art

For this house, I have been going for a tropical glam look. I am embracing the coastal feel since we now reside in Florida, with a girly glam twist. I’m trying not to go too beachy, but it is SO fun to be able to add hints here and there like this palm tree art!
dishes

I think good design is all in the details. You might have to squint for this one (lol), but I customized a set of affordable dishes! I hand painted the pink scallops on the white bowls and am excited to share this easy DIY with you soon! Also, this was our actual lunch. Usually our food isn’t this pretty, but it sure was good!
before and after
Let’s finish up this post if my favorite ways ever- a before and after! I love the transformation and think the light furniture and art really leave the room feeling open. This room, maybe more than any other that I have ever designed, feels like me.
My parting advice is that if you don’t have a room that feels like you, pick one and get started! You don’t need a ton of money to decorate your home! With a few additions and tweaks, anyone can begin to have their dream home.
