Happy 2024! I am feeling really good about the New Year. And what better way to celebrate than by planning some projects?! I have some big things in store including tearing a room to the studs, fixing a DIY failure, and taking classes to learn a new skill. Let’s go through the 2024 project plans!
2024 project plans
Let’s start with a video that walks through all the plans. Then, I’ll dive in with more details below:
If the video doesn’t work here, you can watch it on YouTube here. It’d mean so much if you’d watch the video! I’m trying to get better at my video skills so I can grow my YouTube channel. If you have a few minutes to watch this and/or subscribe, I’d so appreciate it.
Bathroom renovation
This is the year of my new bathroom! Last year I had plans to do this, but the money wasn’t there. I’m hoping we’ll start on demo super soon. I’ll have a whole post up soon with the bathroom design. Which I’ve been planning over Christmas break and let me tell you- there’s A LOT to look forward to!
Every room in our house we’ve taken down to the studs. But not this one. We have water damage in the wall so it needs addressed ASAP to make sure we don’t have mold back there. Also all the plumbing in the house has been upgraded to PEX besides in here so we’ll be tackling both of those.
The vanity in my bathroom is about 6″ smaller than it needs to be, so that’ll be getting bigger.
There’s also a pipe in the bathroom that I’m hoping we can do something with. Until we open our walls and have a plumber over, we won’t know for sure. Fingers crossed we can at lease hide it a bit!
Stay tuned for more details soon!
living room updates
I love my living room. When we first moved in, this was the room with the best molding (it’s big and solid wood). So I’d like to make the ceiling a little more formal. Maybe I’ll do a shiplap ceiling? Maybe add some fancy trim? I’m definitely planning on crown molding. I don’t like the look of textured drywall so I’m excited for this upgrade!
The floors in this room are original. They are painted and I hate the upkeep. I’d like to replace them with laminate to match my bedroom and hall.
kitchen diy failure fix
A few years we re-did our kitchen. I was super excited about the tile floors, but they just haven’t held up. Many are cracked or have come loose from the floors. The grout has broken between the tiles. Because our house is old it moves a lot. We’re thinking we’ll have to add some supports under the floors to help stabilize them.
Once that’s done, removing the tile and continuing the laminate floors is the dream.
laundry room floors
The laundry room is another space I did awhile ago that I’d like to upgrade. About 4 years ago when we redid the room, I just didn’t have the capacity to tile the floors and finish the room in the short time period we had. So I painted the floors! And they were so cute!
But since the laundry is off the backyard, it gets really dirty! And the paint is now stained and won’t come clean.
We now own a grinder so we can smooth out the hump on the floor and tile. The laundry room is on it’s own cement pad so I’m anticipating less issues than the kitchen (fingers crossed).
chicken coop
We have 6 chickens that we love. But their area is not the cutest. We have big plans for this! There’s a shed with wood (that we never use). So we’d like to take that out and convert the shed into a pen for the chickens and give away their old chicken coops.
I’d like the chickens to have an automatic door that opens at sunrise and closes at sunset. I’d like it to look cute on the shed. The hope is that it’ll also be warmer for them in the winter.
I have lots of ideas to make it the sweetest area. Right now it’s functional so it’s not a priority project, but it’d be really fun to transform the area!
stained glass classes
Something that I’m really excited about this year is taking stained glass classes! I’m signed up for my first one at the end of January. This is an expensive hobby to get into so I’m hoping to make sure I like at the class before diving headfirst into buying the supplies.
There’s lots of areas in my house I’d like to add stained glass. It’s very, very expensive to buy all finished so I’m hoping it can be something that I can do!
bored games
Last year, the most popular project I created was turning board games into books. I still have a few more I’d like to make over!
I’d also like to use a similar concept to organize my son’s Lego.
Don’s room
Speaking of Don’s room, I only have a few projects left before I am calling it done. I’d like to redo the ceiling- I have the textured drywall. We recently added a house shaped Billy Bookcase. I’m planning on making a smaller one to hold his Lego storage!
small projects
In my bedroom, I’d like to add panel molding above and below the chair rail. That room we mostly redid last year, but I think this detail will add some interest that I find lacking on the side walls.
I also have some crafts planned- like beading a tissue box cover. And making a jewelry box look like a vintage cake!
Our pantry is really scary looking. I’d like to tear everything out and start again so it’ll be more functional for us.
trip to Italy
Last year I put together two girls trips. The first one was to Paris and the second to Charleston. It was one of the main highlights of my year. Meeting my community in person. Getting to know each of the girls. Eating and shopping and sightseeing together. It was seriously magic! I loved it!
So this year I’ll be hosting another trip- this time to Tuscany! We’ll spend a few days in Florence and then go to the countryside. There will be antique shopping, historic villa tours, good food, and great company. I can’t wait!
If you’d like to receive information about this trip (and others if I keep doing them), fill out this form-
So there you have it- my 2024 project plans. Which one are you most excited about? Do you have any project requests you’d like to see me do? I always love suggestions! Let me know in the comments.
