Around here, our dogs are considered members of our family. We have a dog bed for Derek in the kitchen, but in the living room, where Lucy usually sleeps, we didn’t have a designated space for her. So I did what any other crafty dog mom would, I made her one! And it was incredibly easy!
diy suitcase dog bed
Supplies-
- vintage dog bed (mine was $25 from a local antique store)
- foam 2″x22″x22″ regular density (also available on Amazon)
- fabric 1/2 yard
- optional- items to make a banner- felt, embroidery thread, needle
step 1-
cut your foam to size (just measure the base of your suitcase). I did mine with sharp scissors.
step 2-
sew a cover for your foam. If I was being smart, I would have made a mini fitted sheet so it can be removed to be washed. I didn’t, so learn from me :). I sewed the cover on instead of making it removeable.
step 3-
Place the cushion in the suitcase. At this point, you can be done! The inside of my suitcase was looking a little boring, so I made a felt banner to jazz it up.
step 4-
If you want to make a little banner, just grab a sheet of felt and cut the corners off. Write what you want on the banner in market.
Then you can embroider the words with embroidery thread. Next, I added a bunch of tassels that I made from embroidery string. I figured out a super fast way to make two tassels from one embroidery thread. I have a video tutorial below! After they were made, I hand stitched them on. Then I sewed the banner onto the rod in my suitcase.

Clearly, she loves her new dog bed- lol! But seriously, whenever we are in this room, this is where Lucy will be sleeping. Its nice and cozy for her.
other ideas for pampering your pet

If there’s one thing my dogs like more than sleeping, its eating! I’ve been feeding my dogs Freshpet for awhile and they love it! So what is Freshpet? Its dog food that is stored in the fridge. Freshpet is made from fresh ingredients with 100% natural farm raised poultry, beef, and fish combined with fiber packed garden veggies and anti oxidant-rich fruits.
Freshpet comes in a few forms- there’s a roll like what I’m serving above (you just cut off slices and cut them into smaller pieces to put in their bowl). It also comes in a zipper packed bag and you can just measure out the right quantity at meal time. Both ways are totally fresh and you store them in the refrigerator (where you would any type of meat).

I have to tell you- my dogs LOVE Freshpet. Like they go crazy when I pull the bag out of the fridge! And then they eat it right up (which they never do with dried food). I can tell that they love it and I really appreciate knowing its a healthy choice for them! There’s no preservatives or additives- just whole ingredients.
Where do you get Freshpet? Lots of stores have a Frehspet fridge in them! I get mine from Target, but you can click here to see where the closest location is to you. Its super easy and convenient!
There are my two ways to pamper you pets- make them a cute dog bed and then feed them fresh food that they’ll love. Pretty simple! Let me know if you have any questions about the DIY or Freshpet, I’m happy to answer them.
