Last week was spent tearing out our old bathroom. We found exposed brick (fun!) and mold (not so fun). This week we’ve been putting things back together. It’s been a lot of boring behind the scenes stuff like new plumbing and replacing the wiring. You’ve gotta love an old house! So although it hasn’t looked better, it’s massive upgrades. While that’s been happening, I’ve been planning the decor. First up- a double shower curtain.
looks I love- double shower curtain

Ok, so here’s a look I’ve been loving- a double shower curtain! It’s a super easy way to elevate a normal shower curtain. I’m not doing glass shower doors, so I wanted to find to have a shower curtain with a more upscale look.
There’s a few ways to get this look- first of all, you can literally get two shower curtains and just hang both.
The second option, which I’ll probably do is to buy drapes and then use a normal shower curtain liner. To convert the drapes to work with shower rings, I’ll probably follow this tutorial and sew button holes into the top of the drapes.
I think this looks so elegant because there’s more fabric so it looks lush. In a room with so many hard surfaces, any added softness goes a long way. Are you digging this look too?
Curtain tie backs
So, I’m going to order a pair of drapes. But I was thinking to finish off the look, I’d also get a fun curtain tie back. That way, when the shower isn’t in use. the curtain can be snagged back. Hubba hubba- it’ll look so good! Here’s a bunch of hold backs I’m considering-
1 hand / 2 dry flowers / 3 peacock / 4 modern circle / 5 silver bee / 6 leather / 7 nautical knot / 8 hanging knot / 9 white flower / 10 fortune brass / 11 simple gold / 12 beaded tassel / 13 modern black / 14 knot and tassel / 15 clustered fan
I’m liking the peacock, the beaded tassel (12), or maybe the hanging knot (8). Which one do you think I should get?
bathroom progress
We started the bathroom out looking like this.
Then we tore its down to the studs and added insulation.
This week, cement board was added. We’re using this instead of drywall as it won’t rot or grow mildew.
For above the sink, we’ll have a medicine cabinet. It’s all framed out so it should be flush with the tile and look really seamless. You can see a bit of the original brick.
We trimmed out the new, bigger window. It’s so much sunnier in here now!
In the tub, we painted on some Red Guard- which is another weather proofing measure. It’ll also help prevent cracks in the tile and grout. I applied it like painting a wall. It started out as pink and dried to this terrifying dark red. Now we have another reason to hurry up with the tiling!

A few weeks ago, I shared the plans for the bathroom tile. One wall- behind the vanity, toilet, and into the shower will be rainbow tile! I’m so excited about that! There rest of the walls (including in the shower) will be a textured, pearl white subway tile. It’ll be stunning! On the floor, I have a grey geometric tile planned.
It’ll be tile everywhere but the ceiling. I think it’ll be very classy and pretty!
Ready for a sneak peek of the tile?! My husband started a few rows late last night.
We’re doing three rows of each color with a total of 12 colors. It’ll be pretty fun!
For the tub, the plan right now is to leave it the peach color it is. We’ll see if we need to do something else once the tile is in. What do you think? Will it look hideous next to blue tile at the bottom of the rainbow?!
Alright! That’s the bathroom update for the week. Hopefully by the end of next week we’ll actually be done! Tile will go up everywhere then the toilet will be added back (yay!!!). I have a fun DIY for the vanity planned. Then it’s just the fun small decorating stuff.
