About two years ago, my husband and I built in bookcases in our master bedroom. It turned out to be the best decision ever. I spent months thrifting home decor books and then put them on the shelf in rainbow order. It looks beautiful, but more than that, this area has become a priceless reference library. I thought I’d share how you can start your collection by shopping online with 100 home decor books for less than $10.
100 Home Decor Books for less than $10
Of course, you can go to your local thrift shop and slowly build a collection like I did. It’s fun and fulfilling and you never know what you’re going to get! Also, lots of my books are from bookstores or were gifts. Those were all purchased for $15-$35 each.
But, if you have an exact book you want and you’re on a budget you can get them super cheap online through eBay! I know that doesn’t seem like a big secret, but I’ve been buying $3 hardcover home decor books lately and it’s so fun! That’s $3 SHIPPED! The price is so good and I can shop from the comfort of my home.
Here’s the eBay home decor books I found that sell for less than $10 shipped. Note, usually there’s just one of each book so if you want one, grab it quickly. Just click on the image and it’ll take you right to the page on eBay.
A second note, most of these books are hard cover. So if you’re thinking “those covers are UGLY,” you can just take the dust covers off and the binding is usually simple and beautiful.
a reference library
my husband and I built these shelves for around $300! This post has the tutorial and tips on styling bookshelves
Now, not every book you want will be on eBay for less than $10. But lots of older ones are! And that’s kind of the beauty of this. I’m finding that lots of homes are just replicas of other ones and everything is starting to look the same. Want a different look? Get inspiration from somewhere beside Pinterest and Instagram.
Since traveling is out the window right now, referencing older books is such a gold mine! When I need fresh ideas, I curl up in my bed and pull out a bunch of books and leaf through them. It’s a beautiful way to spend an hour. And then I leave feeling inspired and full of ideas.
Maybe home decor isn’t where it’s at for you. But a collection of any genre of books would be wonderful. Travel books of places you want to go, memoirs of inspiring people, fashion books. There’s endless ways to use this idea!
And of course, if you don’t want a full bookshelf of books, having a few around the house works beautifully too! I love books in living rooms and bedrooms and offices to elevate other decor. You can spy a few stacks of books in the image below.
books I own and love
I thought I’d break down the big list above and share my very favorite books that I own and love from above that are my favorite to reference. You can click on the image and it’ll take you to the page on eBay to purchase.
Next, these are the prettiest books I own. Maybe I don’t read them all the time, but they look so cute on a shelf!
books I want to buy right this second
For my last list, these are the books I found on eBay that I want to buy right this second. They look interesting and pretty, I don’t own them yet, but come to mama! Lol!
but what about supporting the writer?
The number one downside about buying books from a thrift store or on eBay from a second hand seller is that the writer doesn’t get their royalties. Usually they’d get $1-$2 per book, but that adds up with many book sales. So yes, this is definitely a bummer from this method. If you have a writer you want to support, buy directly from their website or a book store (which also supports the book store).
Alright, this post took me 354 years to write since I had to search each book by title and find the most affordable one. I hope it’s a good reference for you if you are wanting beautiful books while staying on a budget. Who’s going book shopping today?! 🙋🏻♀️
