I have a quick and easy DIY for you today! The next room I’m going to be working on is my office. I love surrounding myself with plants so I thought a hanging planter would be nice next to my desk. I wanted something that would incorporate my love of gold and color while being a nod to midcentury decor.
how to make easy hanging planters
Let’s start with the video tutorial so you get an overview on what I did. Then, I’ll dive in with more details below:
If the video doesn’t work here, you can watch it on YouTube here. P.s. I’m trying to build that page up, so if you’d subscribe, I’d really appreciate that!SUPPLIES
- gold rings (2 per planter)- 10″ for the small and 12″ for the large– these links are for Amazon. I got my rings in store at Joann for $3 per ring.
- embroidery thread (2 per planter)
- wood scraps- 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ for the small and 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ for the large
- braiding cord
This project was inspired by this A Beautiful Mess planter. I did my own take on it though!
step 1
Start by tying the two gold rings together with braiding cord with a knot. Wrap the string around the knot. Keep wrapping for a decorative finish.
step 2
Next, add a block of wood between the rings. Tie embroidery string around them. Wrap the thread around the wood and rings, pulling the thread tight as you go. Complete with two embroidery thread packs per hanger.
Use any color you’d like! You could also use multiple colors. This is a fun way to customize these planters!
step 3
Finish up by adding string to the top for hanging the planter. I used the braiding cord here again. I wrapped the string over the knot to hide it.
step 4
Now you’re all done! Just hang from a plant hook and add some succulents or other plants of your choice!
after
For now, I hung these in my butler’s pantry. As soon as my office is painted, they’ll be moving over there. These planters are super easy to make and you can use your wood scraps to make them! If you can tie a knot and wrap string, you can make these! Plus they’re affordable! Only $7 per planter to make.
I also wanted to talk about this cute bench! It is by Homepop and you can buy it at Target (right now its 25% off)! It comes in a few colors (white, orange, silver, and a navy blue). The gold base and button tufting are so pretty to me. I just got it for my living room and it looks soooo cute in there too: Our entry didn’t have any seating so its nice to have a place to sit down to put on your shoes. Or just extra seating if we have guests over! Anyway, I love to share good finds with you! So if you’re in the market for a cute modern glam bench that’s affordable, I think you’ll really like this one.
