A few days ago I got back from a trip to Florida. It was wonderful! The trip was to celebrate my 12th wedding anniversary with my husband. We took Don along and we all had a great time. I thought I’d do a brief trip recap with a few of our favorite things in case you’re in the area. I’ll also put up some Florida design inspiration. To me, travel wakes me up and gives me a fresh perspective. I’m full of new ideas right now and I just love that!
trip recap
A few years ago we lived in Florida. It was a short stay- 5 months for a winter but we all fell in love. Our best friends still live there and so it’s always fun to go back to catch up. One day we’d love to buy a winter house there when the time is right!
We had a red eye flight and were exhausted upon arrival. Nothing a quick nap and then a trip to the beach couldn’t cure! Our friend Danny took us to tour a 1900’s home in Miami- it’s called Vizcaya and was a dream to visit! Most of the furnishings were bought in Europe and the home was built to fit the items.
I loved the color scheme- lots of soft pastels! And I thought this ship handing from the ceiling was charming too!
Every ceiling in the home had ornate decorations. I loved the blue and pink on the trim in here. And that hand paint mural was pretty stunning too!
This sitting room had silk palm tree wallpaper. I loved this space SO much! The palm motif will always have my heart (even if this wallpaper hasn’t weathered well in the humidity).
Disney World
After a few days in the Miami area, we drove to Orlando for Disney World. The first night we were there we went to Mickey’s Not So Scary Party. It is so fun because the Magic Kingdon park is WAY less crowded and you get to trick or treat! Don dressed up as Woody and I dressed up as Bo Peep.
Don isn’t much for character greetings, but the second he saw Buzz, he wanted a picture. He practiced that pose while in line- lol! If you have the chance to go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Party I 100% recommend it! You can enter the park at 4pm and stay until 12 (we left around 10). There’s a special parade and fireworks. Definitely worth it!
The second day at Disney was spent at Epcot. They were having a food festival and let me tell you- it’s magical! They set up extra food booths and have $4-$5 options. So you can eat cuisine from around the world while strolling through the park.
The train at Epcot is one of our favorite parts- Don is convinced we need one in our backyard and had me take picture to remember the design.
Our final day at Disney was spent at the Animal Kingdom park. We started the day with a safari (which Don was really into). Since he’s obsessed with dinosaurs, we headed over to the Dinoland USA section and Don was in heaven!
hollywood, Florida
When going to Florida, we like to stay in the Hollywood area. It’s quieter than Miami and the beaches are amazing! Spending an evening at the beach is just perfection!
We like to stay at Beach Rooms Inn– the rooms have cute decor and they have suites (so Don can sleep in another room). I love that the rooms have a fridge and table so we can eat in the room. This saves money and sometimes Don gets sick of eating out. The best part of this hotel is the location- it’s a few feet from the beach.
For eating in Hollywood Florida, we love Flanigans (just order from the appetizer menu) and The Taco Spot (which is walking distance from the hotel). On Saturday, we hit up the local Yellow and Green farmer’s market. We got fruit to eat through the week and picked up some of our favorite Bang Dip.
The trip was seriously a dream! It was so fun to hang out at the beach and really reconnect with my family. Travel can be hard to fit in (both budget and time wise), but it sure is worth it!
Florida Design Inspiration
While away, it was amazing getting some fresh design ideas! Want to see which coastal decor I’m currently lusting over?!
1 Gold Leaf Floor Lamp / 2 Ocean Palm Floor Lamp / 3 Emily & Meritt Palm Floor Lamp / 4 Pineapple Chandelier / 5 Lilly Pulitzer Chandelier / 6 Palm Chandelier / 7 Palm Tree Buffet Lamp / 8 Palm Leaf Table Lamp / 9 Antique Palm Table Lamp / 10 Beaumont End Table / 11 Palm Tree Side Table / 12 Alaric End Table
I’m obviously really into the brass palm look! I especially love the floor palm lamps in square 2 and 3! Add one of these to pink palm wallpaper in a living room and I’d be in heaven. One of these per room would add some really fun personality!
1 Jewelry Box / 2 Soap Dispenser / 3 Shell Chandelier / 4 Shell Sconce / 5 Shell Dish /
6 Shell Chair / 7 Shell Chair with Legs / 8 Shell Pillow / 9 Shell Bed
The scalloped shell look is right on trend now! Put it in pink velvet and you have the girliest look possible! Which means I love it! You could definitely go too far with the shell motif, but used sparingly is fun!
And side note, even if you don’t live in a coastal area and want to use one of these looks- go for it! Fill your house with what you love!
Do you have any fun trips planned? I’d love to hear in the comment section below!
If you love it, pin it!
