I’ve always loved the look of using a vanity as a night stand. In this house, I fully embraced it because there is no other place for it in the room. The corner was tight so I needed something tiny. I searched online, but when I came up empty handed, I headed to the thrift store.

If you’ve been following long, you know that I am trying my best to fill my home with beautiful pieces that are affordable. To be honest, the desk I found did not start out beautiful, but it was $20! I liked the curves on the legs and the size was right, so I figured it was good enough. I brought it home and for months I used it as is.
For me, being a girl who loves a light living space, this stuck out like a sore thumb! I finally found the time to paint. It was destined to be white from the beginning of its life with me!
I know people aren’t fans of painting something that is wood, but it was beat up! The finish by the drawer was completely worn off and there were paint splatters over everything.
Outside it went, and I gave it a quick sanding.
The dark wood finish required 3 coats of white paint and then a clear coat to protect the paint from scratching.

The paint absolutely transformed this piece! It fits right in and is much more pleasant to use (it feels cleaner – fancy that!). I am oh so glad that I picked up that Target vanity mirror while it was at my local store! At first I struggled with knowing where to put the mirror so this mirror was the perfect answer!
There have got to be at least a few people out there doing their makeup sitting on the floor or at a sink. That was me for so long – I’d stain (or burn) the carpet and had to keep my makeup in a bag. If this is you, get a vanity! It is life changing having a dedicated spot to sit down and get ready. You deserve it!
I love this little collection of pieces. The mini brass frame is from Target (it’s actually a place card holder) with a printed picture. For me, I don’t love a lot of personal pictures in the bedroom and this one turned out the perfect, almost secret size!
To keep things neat, I put my perfume, hand cream, and candle on a tray (if you need a simple, inexpensive tray, I love this one from World Market for $6). I like that the vanity mirror has a built in tray – it’s perfect for glasses and my watch!
art
The art was the last thing I added to my vanity. And I really love it! To soften up the space, I hung a woven wall hanging (only $16 on Amazon)! To the right of it, I added an abstract piece of art and this cute “I like you very much” $15 print (no longer available).
I shared video of this space on my Instagram story last weekend and had so many messages about this little corner! The bedroom has taken longer than I thought it would to put it together. To me, it’s ok to slowly decorate as you live in a space and get to figure out how everyone uses it. What room or corner are you working on right now?
