The next project on my to do list is my office! When we moved in six months ago, this was the room where everything got dumped. A few months ago, I redid the layout and it was better. But still, the office isn’t how I want it. Time to do more to the space!
Here’s how the office looked one month ago (with all the playroom furniture in here)-
before
First thing on my to do list was to paint the walls white. Half of the walls were a purplish grey color. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t like how choppy the room felt. I especially thought the grey made the chimney bump out stand out.
So I did my favorite thing and I painted the walls white! First I pushed all of the furniture over and pulled the art off the walls.
I spent hours caulking all of the seams- I don’t think this house has ever been caulked. Which is fun for me ;). I knew once there weren’t huge cracks around all of the original molding, it’d look much better. P.s. if you want my full caulking tutorial, click here.
what a difference paint makes
This window looks over our front porch and has a towel for a shade. We live on a busy street so we need the privacy. I really need to invest in a real window cover for here!
After a few hours of painting, the office is looking much better! It feels better in here already- lighter and brighter. I love using white walls as a background for colorful spaces! Plus, that chimney bump out is so much less noticeable!
what’s next
Now that this room has a much better foundation, what’s next?
- Right now, the office only has one desk. My husband and I both work from home, so I need to add a second.
- The layout is not working. I need to cut some furniture to fit the desk and come up with a space plan. This room is the shape of a T with 3 doors, 3 windows, and a large closet. It is a tricky room!
- I have a new rug on its way! The rug that’s in the office right now is too small (a 5×7) and is actually an outdoor rug. I fell in love with the Rifle Paper Co. x Loloi rugs and they are priced really well! I have a Luxemburg Rose rug on its way- I am SO excited!!!
desk options
I’ve been shopping around for desks. I want something under $200 that has some storage. I found 9 cute options. Which one would you get?
one- gold inverted legs and circle pulls / two- marble top and cooper legs / three- x legs, brass hardware / four- helix legs, 2 drawer / five- natural wood angled legs / six- parson desk, 2 drawers / seven- mid century modern one drawer / eight- angled legs, long drawer / nine- hairpin legs, open storage
So this is the official kick off for the office redo. I’m excited to make over this space in the next few weeks and bring you along for the ride! This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.
