Just over a week ago, I started work on this bathroom. We have two restrooms in our house and this one is my husbands. It hadn’t been updated at all and the dark paneling and tile felt so opposing! I figured- wouldn’t a budget update be fun?! One day we’ll completely renovate this space, but for not it’s feeling SO much more a part of our house.
before
Here’s a quick reminder of how it used to look- dark and dated. Nothing paint and some pretty decor couldn’t fix!
budget bathroom update
mirror / soap container / hand towel / shelf / frame / marble tray / toilet paper holder / gold candle holder
The vanity side of the room got a major update! The tile on the wall was painted white (tutorial here). The frameless mirror was replaced with a bamboo brass mirror. Next to it, I added some storage with a wood shelf that I layered framed art and a gold candle holder (that I’m using as a vase).
Since this bathroom is my husbands, I tried my best to not be as girly with my design. I added a few black accents to bring in a masculine touch.
I wanted this room to be really neutral, but have a few splashes of color. After picking out the shower curtain, I painted the door Frosted Sage by Behr Paint and love that mint color in here!
The toilet paper holder feels like a big upgrade in here- there wasn’t one before! It’s the little things people! Also, I tried to paint the faucet to look brass and it’s not quite there yet. I’ll keep working on it and report back when I get the color I want.
Side note, I have some wallpaper and a brass backsplash on it’s way for this room. They both are barely delayed, but I’ll put up a new post once I have those installed. P.s. you can check out my plans for this room here.
budget bathroom update- shower
shower curtain / shower hooks / gold shower rod / white bath rug
Let’s talk about this shower curtain! It is $18 and is what I based the whole room off of. I love that it’s mostly neutral and then has green and grey stripes at the bottom. I love the Turkish vibe! This shower curtain absolutely transformed this corner!
The hand towels in this room are a part of a set of 4. They’re technically kitchen towels, but match the shower curtain perfectly. They look like Turkish towels, but they have a layer of Terry cloth so they’re nice and absorbent. Plus, they’re $10 for the set of 4- so affordable! I love them!
budget bathroom update- window wall
plant stand / white bath towel / marble pot / marble box
This little wicker shelf used to be red and was looking pretty beat up and worn. Again, let’s take a second to awe at the power of paint! Once it was refreshed, it became the perfect home for some storage in the basket and for towels.
I added a little plant stand and green pot next to the wicker piece. I LOVE the texture plants add to a space. Plus they clean the air. I tried to pick plants that will love being in the humid bathroom. This room has 4 new plants! They really bring this space to life!
I hung a few pieces of art from my collection. Fresh art does so much to update things! The board with hooks was always in this room, but I changed the hardware for brass hooks. I love that bit of extra functionality!
Most of the decor from this bathroom are from Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart. There is a good variety in stores, but even more styles and colors online! You can shop this post here-
Isn’t this a great moment?! The wicker and brass and wood really warm things up in a colder room. Plus, I find the textures here so lovely!
before and after
I wanted to close this post with a few more before and after gifs. Because aren’t they sooooo satisfying?! This little space has come so far! I am really happy with the white backdrop and textural additions. It feels happy, bright, and clean. I love it! What was your favorite part of the update? Mine might be the minty door!

Looks so bright and refreshed! Maybe try Rub ‘n Buff on the faucet. It comes in lots of different metallic finishes.
