Hi guys and happy Monday! I had an exciting weekend- we painted the outside of my house and I can’t wait to show you! Then on Sunday I did a budget makeover for two little boys. It was so fun! we did a big reveal and everything! So I’ll have a fun week of posts for you as I’m able to post about those.
Last week I revealed my sister’s blue and white kitchen. I got a bunch of questions about it so I thought I’d answer them here!
kitchen Q&A
Did you make the sink skirt or did you purchase it?
- I made the sink skirt. I bought fabric for $7 from Joann in the home decor fabric section and made it last minute (it was on clearance!). Sadly, I don’t remember what the fabric was made out of. I was looking for a neutral fabric with texture.
What are you going to do in the entrance to the hallway?
- Nothing. It’ll be open. I hung a sheet there because the hallway is painted yellow and I didn’t want to see that bright color in the after pictures. I’m sure my sister will paint it one day.
Is the bench fabric a performance fabric? We need something that’ll hold up to kids
- The listing for the fabric says it’s suitable for furniture upholstery. I’d suggest spraying it with Scotch Guard.
- Yes. It has an insert to make it functional.
Did you tile above the change hood (on either side)?
- Yes. The tile goes all the way to the ceiling on both sides. It’s beautiful!
q&a
Were the fronts from Semihandmade already painted or did you paint them?
- They came as raw wood- ready to paint. We wanted to paint them so the uppers (that we used from the original kitchen would match). Semihandmade makes painted doors though too. You can see them in the blog post about painting the cabinets.
- No. But if/when they get one, it’ll go perfectly in the pantry
- Yes. It had to come out to make way for the pantry and to open the wall to the living room. I was sad to see it go, but it made way for better things.
Was the vintage stove from the before not functional?
- No. We tried so hard to get it to work! It was beautiful.
What does the inside of the spice doors look like?
- I don’t have a picture of it. It’s just small shelves. If you go to my Instagram highlight called “sister’s house” on Instagram you can see a video of it though!
q&A more details
Are you going to help your sister with more work? Does she have an Instagram account?
- Not right now. I’m enjoying doing projects at my house right. My sister lives an hour and a half away so it was quite a trek to go up and back. We went up 30 times to finish the kitchen! It was hard to spend weekends up there for months. She has a private Instagram account where she shares her kids and love of quilting.
What was the budget and did you go over?
- I don’t know. There’s lots of bills I haven’t seen so I’m not sure of the total. But between the cabinetry, plumber, electrician, new floors, and other items I’d guess around 20k.
Why didn’t you show video (insta stories) or pictures of your sister in here?
- I like to record Instagram stories when I’m alone- I’m weird about it. Also, I just don’t know how people will feel being on my account- having thousands of people seeing her. So I let her family be mostly private.
How are they going to design the living room?
- It’ll be traditional and flow nicely with the kitchen. They have a beige Chesterfield sofa and will add blue and white tile to the fireplace. It’ll be beautiful!
Q&A sources
Where is the wallpaper from?
Where is the countertop from?
- Ikea. It’s white quartz. If you have questions on what quartz is or how to upkeep it, check out my quartz 101 blog post.
Where are the appliances from? The brand names of them?
- The dishwasher is a Bosch. Next, the fridge is a Samsung. Last, the stove is Whirlpool.
What is the size of the table?
- 45″ round
Where is the table from?
- It was custom made for their family. It used to be white and then I refinished it to the raw wood.
p.s. you can find all of the kitchen sources here.
Circular Dining Table Roundup
The number one question I’ve gotten about this kitchen is for the table source. Since it, sadly, isn’t available, here’s a round up of 9 similar ones.
1 Bee + Willow / 2 Arcadia / 3 Banks / 4 Linden / 5 Owen / 6 Atwood / 7 Benchwright / 8 Pengrove / 9 Aldridge
Isn’t the light weathered oak finish pretty on these?! I love a pedestal table! Plus, there’s something so great about a round table- the conversation feels much more intimate.
Let me know if you have any other questions on the kitchen, I’m happy to answer!
If you love it, pin it!
