Last week I revealed my Palm Beach Chic patio and the response has been so kind- thank you!!! One of my favorite parts (and it sounds like yours too!) was the DIY Beach Hat Inspired Placemats.

I was at Ikea one day and saw some straw placemats. I thought they were beach hats, but when I got closer, I saw what they actually were. That got me thinking- wouldn’t it be so cute to use the trend of scripted hats, but on a placemat?! Here’s how you can make your own:
supplies
- straw placemats (Ikea version) – here’s an option that’s available on Amazon
- Parachute cord (10′ black)
- Hot glue gun
- Tailor’s chalk
- Pattern for words- enter your email below for access to free pattern plus ideas for more words to put on your placemats
To make the placemat, print the pattern and cut around the word you want with scissors. Place the pattern on the top of the placemat and adhere with a piece of tape. Trace the words with tailor’s chalk and take off the pattern. Go over the chalk outline with hot glue then carefully place the cord over the glue.
AFTER
How cute are these?! I love the beachy vibe they add to the tablescape!
I used a little too much hot glue, but other than that I am thrilled with how these turned out!
Aren’t these straw placemats the perfect base for the place setting?!
melamine plates / bamboo flatware / pitcher / pagoda lanterns / art / tray / cup / pineapple tumbler / table / tile / flamingos / table runner / palm tree candle sticks / grey paint / brass vase / green tapered candles
If you’re doing any outdoor entertaining, these will be the perfect accent! Or if you just want a fun accent to your table. Pass the watermelon!
