Hi friends! Last week I shared my patio reveal and this week I am going to give you the full price breakdown on how much it cost to do. I also wanted to share a few ways I was able to do this project while staying on a tight budget. My hope that these tips will help you if you want to tackle your patio too.
paint
Originally, because the walls were so bad on the patio (huge gaps in the plywood), I was going to put new walls up. But that would have cost $200. Instead, I used caulk, paint and painter’s tape to give the plywood a second life with the cutest stripes for less than $50. It was a big savings and looks gorgeous!
bought vintage items
Craigslist way my best friend for this patio! I had a vision and was lucky enough to find items that worked with that that were vintage or second hand. The bamboo console I bought for $35 (and had to add a $30 plexiglass top to it). The chairs I bought for $40 for all three (!!!) and gave them a coat of paint on the cushion to customize it for me (here’s that tutorial). So for $75 I was able to buy the key furniture items!
shop around
For the outdoor dining table, I originally fell in love with a $600 table. But it ended up being too big to fit nicely in the space, so I shopped around to find something I liked that would fit better. The table I found at Overstock ended up being $320 and the perfect size! It wipes down easily and looks gorgeous in the space!
use inexpensive materials
For the floors, I had my heart set on cement tiles- I just love the look! But that would have cost $2500 in tile plus would been trickier and more expensive to install. Instead, I found a tile that looked like cement, but was only $885 for the tiles! Plus, it ended up being less slick which is important when laying tile next to a pool. (tutorial for how to lay patio tile)
Do it yourself
The labor on this patio- the painting and tiling was done by my husband and myself, saving hundreds of dollars. I also did small DIY projects that gave a custom look with a low price tag like cutting the plexiglass for the bamboo table, painting the chair cushions, and making over $2 Ikea placemats into a cute accessory.

Whenever I add up how much these projects cost, I’m always surprised. I think $2500 is great for the transformation. Doing a painted floor instead of tile could have also kept the cost down. Also, I splurged on some of the accessories (which helped add the personality). If you are redoing a patio, I hope these numbers and ideas help you keep on budget and have clear expectations.
