In 2008 I was a wedding planner and can I tell you, I loved it! Almost everything about it was fun for me- but the planning, that was the best! I’d work with the bride to coordinate the flowers to match the cake to look amazing with the decorations. I honestly miss being able to see new trends in the wedding industry and being able to implement them.
But why can’t I?! I figured I would take one of my favorite current looks (wreath backdrops), put it up in my house, and share the DIY. Its a win win situation. I get to have decorating fun and you get inspiration for your next birthday party / wedding / baby shower/ whatever you feel like doing. Let’s get started!
diy spring wreath backdrop tutorial
supplies
- gold hoops small and large– These are the exact sets I bought on Amazon and they’re incredibly affordable
- faux flowers and greenery- I went into Michael’s and bought mostly ferns for the greenery and cheery blossoms for the pink flowers. Use whatever items you like (and definitely use a coupon!)
- floral wire
- white yarn
- wood sign (if wanted)- again this is great Amazon find!
- Dowel for hanging the wreaths- I used a 48″ wide one I already had at home
- scissors
- wire cutters
how to make the backdrop
step one- use the floral wire to attach the greenery to the bottom half of the hoop
step two- once the greenery is attached, layer your flowers on top. Don’t worry about making them too perfect, you want some variation so it is interesting.
For my backdrop, I decorated 10 wreaths. This number was perfect for my project, but for a wedding or party, you might want to do more.
step 3- hang your dowel. I used command hooks so that I wouldn’t damage the wall. I pre-hung a bunch of yarn so I could hang the wreaths without hopping on and off a step stool.
step 4- tie the wreaths to the yarn and work from biggest wreath to smallest. Stand back and make sure the sizes of wreaths are balanced. Lastly, add in the gold hoops without any greenery to fill in holes.
after
When I was putting these up, I was honestly so happy because it looked so, so pretty! It was the modern, fresh look I was going for. Isn’t it so beautiful?!
mirror / gold cup / swans / gardenia candle / candle snuffer / all in good taste book / back to the future book / 100 ideas that changed fashion book / gold vase / pink terra cotta pottery / buffet
If you’re looking for a pretty Instagram worthy backdrop for a party, this’ll work perfectly. I am so excited about how these wreaths look up, surrounding the gold mirror- I hope you love it too!
Some close-ups so you can see the detail. I am obsessed with those gold hoops! The bigger ones are especially pretty.
candles
Hopefully you’ve noticed the pretty candle in the above photos! Its from The Heritage Collection with Chesapeake Bay Candles. I love their candles because they have stylish deigns and the fragrance is oh, so good! Plus, the price point is really reasonable for what you are getting. They have a new collection that I wanted to let you know about-
The Heritage Collection
The Heritage Collection embraces the natural, rustic charm of the Chesapeake Bay and provides an array of soothing, energizing, and refreshing scents. It was created to celebrate Maryland’s beautiful shoreline and is inspired by local botanicals and fruit- how great is that?!
I really appreciate the packaging because it is inspired by a floating bottle on the ocean! The frosted clear glass adds great texture that is perfect for the coastal lifestyle. There’s even a galvanized tin option for a more industrial look.
white gardenia
This is probably my favorite scent out of the whole line! Is there anything better than the opulent scent of gardenia?! This coffee table jar candle is nice and big with three wicks. The gardenia scent is mixed with coconut milk, jasmine, and orange flower. It is divine! Shop it on Amazon here.
floor lamp / pineapple / blood orange candle / end table / pink sofa
blood orange
If you’re wondering what candle I am burning right now, its the blood orange. I love, love this scent! It is an energizing citrus scent with a blend of passion fruit, melon, and mango. It’s in the large jar and I can’t get enough of this one! Shop it on Amazon here.
pink chair / round table / rug / love seat / table runner / diffuser
wild lemongrass reed diffuser
The thing I like about this diffuser is that it is constantly letting out a beautiful smell that isn’t too strong. Plus, with a young son its nice to have the fragrance without the fire. This scent is a combination of verbena, lavender, and garden mint. Essences of wild lemongrass and eucalyptus complement the citrus citrus green core. Shop it on Amazon here.
gold cup / giraffe / aqua marine candle / pink pillow / paloma bench
aqua marine
Last, here is the tin candle that I was mentioning before! The candle has a double wick and I like it because it smells like the ocean. It has fresh notes of bergamot, lemon zest, marine accord, and pineapple. Isn’t the craft paper label a nice addition? Shop it on Amazon here.
There you have it! Candles and a pretty backdrop! I hope the tutorial was inspirational- whether you’re using it in your home or for an event. Mine is still up and making me smile. And isn’t that what decorating is all about?! Happy entertaining!
