I am really looking forward to fall this year! It might be because we spent the winter and spring in Florida, so its felt like a long summer since January. But I say, bring on the hot cocoa, cozy sweaters, and crunchy fall leaves! Today I’m going to share some DIYS to bring that fall scent into your home with essential oils.
essential oil fall candle
I’ve never tried making my own candles before this project, but turns out, it is SO easy! Here’s how you do it:
Supplies-
- Candle Making Kit (that includes the pitcher, wax, and container)
- Fall Essential Oils (I used Pumpkin Pie)- 25 drops
step one- melt the wax
Take the bag of ax and pour it into the pouring pitcher. Place the pitcher in a large pot of water which has been brought to a boil. This will create a double boiler to heat the wax
step 2- prep the candle containers
I choose to make all of the containers that came with the kit at once. As your wax is melting, take your glass containers and tea lights and spread them out onto a covered work area (wax drops aren’t fun to get off surfaces). Take the wicks and place them into the proper container.
step 3- let the wax melt
Let the wax completely melt and bring the wax up to around 120 F. Add 25 drops of any essential oil of your choice. I used Pumpkin Pie. Note, I didn’t use the color or fragrance included with the candle making kit. If you want to add the color, put it in prior to the fragrance (you’ll need to bring the wax to 150 F for the color to melt).
step 5- fill the containers
After adding the fragrance, slowly pour each of your candles. For best results, take a blow dryer and warm the glass before pouring in the hot wax.
all done!
Can you believe how easy that DIY was?! Pretty much just melt wax, add some essential oils, and pour it into a container with a wick! If you want to add an embellishment, you can buy stickers at the craft store. I put fall gold letters on my glass container. I love how simple it is!
essential oil bath bomb diy
Alright, so the last DIY was easy and this one was a little tricky for me! I made two batches before figuring out the third. Here’s what worked for me:
Supplies-
- Witch Hazel– 2 TBS
- Fall Essential Oils– I used Spiced Orange- 5 drops
- Food Coloring- 2 drops
- Citric Acid– 1/2 cup
- Baking Soda- 1 cup
- Bath Bomb Mold– 2.5″ (this recipe makes 4 bath bombs)
step 1
combine 1 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup citric acid into a bowl and stir. Place 5 drops of essential oil in the mixture. Next, put 2 TBS of witch hazel in a spray bottle with a few drops of food coloring.
Now is the tricky part- spray the mixture so that it barely comes together when squeezed. It should form a clump in your hand, but still be really dry/powdery and bits will fall off.
step 2-
Pack the mixture into the molds immediately. They shouldn’t change form or grow (the ones above are the bad batch- see how the middle is getting taller? That’s not a good sign). Take them out of the mold after a couple of hours and then let them dry for at least 24 hours.
caution
If your mixture in the bowl resembles play-dough and is soft, you’ve added too much liquid. This will make your bath bombs keep growing after they are taken out of the mold.
And then you’ll have a Pinterest fail like me! The good news is that even though these are ugly, they still work. Just know that these are a little tricky to get right the first time- at least they were for me!
fall is in the air
The last way I like to bring the scent of fall into my house, is with a diffuser! I’ve recently starting using this gorgeous rose gold diffuser. It looks beautiful and it has a few settings so you can use it with a light on or off, and there are a few timer settings. I love diffusing with Don around- it feels safer than with a candle (the he wants to blow out- lol).
If you’re wondering what I’ve been diffusing- its a rotation of 3 fall scented essential oils– pumpkin pie, harvest moon, and spiced orange!

Taking the time to pause daily for ourselves and making our homes a sanctuary is a great goal with this change of seasons.Thank you to Plant Therapy for sponsoring this post!
