For my son’s 4th birthday party we decided to play homage to his love of animals with a farm party! Don is now old enough that he really helped with the plans. I was originally thinking of a Lego party, but farm was his idea and he was so excited for it, so that’s what we did! And it ended up being so fun!
farm party gift guide
Here’s some gift ideas if you have a farm/animal lover too! I either own or have tried most of these and I definitely recommend them for little ones!
1 Red wood farm / 2 farm animals / 3 cowboy costume / 4 farm puffy stickers / 5 Lego duplo farm adventures / 6 farm friends hand puppets / 7 set of 4 farm puzzles / 8 Barnyard Dance book / 9 stick pony
one
First up, is this cute wood farm. Its fun to play with and the design feels so classic! We own this and it’s supplied many hours of fun! You’ll see it below on my table for the party. Turns out, its cute for decorating too!
two
This set comes with 10 cute barnyard animals. With or without the farm, this would be a cute gift! My son loves this set and plays farmer. Plus, I love that these are velvet!
three
I got this cowboy costume for my son for his birthday. It is soooo cute! It was fun for him to wear this to the party. And now he has one more dress-up to play with!
four
This sticker book is one of my favorite gifts! Its affordable and really occupies my son! The cardboard barn opens up so you can put each animal in their own spot. Its fun and you can move around the sticker. Plus it’s good for hand eye coordination.
five
My son has both Duplo Legos and the normal sized Legos for big kids. We love them all, but Duplos are the perfect for him to play with and build all alone. This farm set looks soooo fun! The bell, the stalls for the animals- its all so cute!
six
We don’t currently own any puppets, but this farm set is sooooo cute! I’ve been playing around with the idea of adding a little theater in my son’s playroom so I might need these soon. 😉
seven
In the past few weeks, my son has become transfixed by puzzles. And he’s gotten pretty fast at putting them together! We have a set like these with dinosaurs and my son loooooves them!
eight
Books are such a good gift (though a 3 or 4 year might not necessarily agree). I thought the book “barnyard dress” was pretty cute! Plus it has over 1000 5 star reviews!
nine
Last up, I think a stick pony would be so fun! It’d also be adorable for pictures. Plus you might be able play lasso at the party with the little kids.
party invitations
This year, I got the party invitations through Minted. I looooove the design! Its whimsical while still being stylish. I like how easy it was to customize it. Oh, and I put a picture of Don on the back.
party decor
For parties, I like to focus on one “wow” moment. We had lots of other food, but this was the treat table that I coordinated with the farm theme. For the table centerpiece, I used the wood farm.
I like to serve yummy food that can work with the theme. For hay bales we had rice Krispy treats. Oreos worked for tractor wheels. Chex mix served in treat cups became chicken feed. Lastly, the peeps were baby chickens!
I added some of my son’s plastic animals and a little tractor to the table. For the party ware, I had fun mixing up the patterns! Bees, polka dot, and gingham plates all played nicely together! Aren’t the bee napkins pretty perfect for the farm theme?!
On the wall, I did a large wall hanging of different paper wheels. This was probably my favorite part of the party- it was so happy! That is 4 packs of paper fans. I hung them on the nails from the art. Where that didn’t work, I used painter’s tape. I made sure to secure the fans to the wall behind other fans to hide the tape.
A good tip for creating a treat table is to keep the eye moving by having food at different heights. This is easy to do with cake stands or you can even use wood boxes! Ps. I’m loving the wood pattern on the cupcake holders! Cute and subtly farm 😉
To hold the wood cutlery, I put them into this cute tray. I like using mason jars for the cutlery and the flower vase- perfectly farm!
pony rides
One of my big goals with Don is to provide him with experiences that he’ll always remember! I sure hope he remembers riding a pony at his party. We live in a rural area so finding an affordable pony was pretty easy. It wad definitely a hit with the kids!
birthday cake
My mother in law went ALL OUT on the birthday cake! Isn’t it amazing?! Don loved it because he got to keep all of those cute animals! It was giant and so fun! I added a few green candles and that wood number 4 for the finishing touch.
free printables
For the party, I created some labels, tractors, farms, and animals that I used to adorn the food table.
If you’d like these free printables for your party, just put your information in below and you will get an email! That will have a link to my resource library with you can immediately download them, While I was cutting these out, Don wanted to play with them SO badly! So for the fact that Don was obsessed was enough reason for me to spend 5 minutes making them :).
For your convenience, I left the labels blank so you can write in whatever you’d like on them.
THE PARTY
How sweet is my little cowboy?! The truth is that the start of the party began a little rocky. Don is not used to sharing toys at his house. He’s been struggling with a few things lately and because of that, he really wasn’t happy that other kids were at his party. After the pony ride, he calmed down. But it was definitely challenging to start out.
All of our friends and family live an hour away so it was really fun to have them over and show them everything that we have been working on! Don definitely felt special and I hope he remembers the fun parts of the day!
Happy birthday Don! I’m the luckiest to be your mom!
