Thank you to Joybird for sponsoring this post
As you may know from this post, I’m doing a few changes in my son Don’s room. His rocking chair was well loved but VERY dirty. We still read a book together every night so I wanted to choose something that rocked, but would look good in other rooms in our house when he’s out of this phase of life.
Here’s the old rocker (the blanket is covering up the worst parts)-

mid century rocker
With the rest of America, I have fallen in love with mid century styling. It’s the perfect clean lines to add lots of whimsey and it just feels so fresh right now. So when I was ready to update Don’s rocking chair, I was on the hunt for the perfect mid century piece. I quickly realized that finding a modern glider or rocker is tricky!
If you’re like me and don’t want an ugly rocker- I think you’ll love Joybird! Their pieces are custom and the quality is outstanding. Don’t make the mistake that I did and need to replace a rocker in 3 years because it couldn’t stand up! In a house there are a few key times I suggest to splurge and buy quality furniture- a mattress, sofa, and a rocking chair.
Why? These are pieces that need to stand up to the test of time and be really comfortable. With a baby, you’ll probably spend hours daily in the rocker. This is a good place to really buy something you love!
Here’s my favorite rocker and gliders Joybird has on their site in some of my favorite fabrics they offer. Each piece can be customized in over 60 fabrics! Plus you can change the stain color on lots of the pieces too. I love that because you can really choose something that works for your family.

what I choose
I ended up selecting the Hughes Swivel Chair in Turquoise. I also paired it with the Eliot ottoman, and a planter and throw that are no longer available (sorry!). Since Joybird is a custom shop, everything is made to order so it can take around 5 weeks to ship. If you choose something from the quick ship page, they go out in 3 days (but the color selection is limited). It is the MOST comfortable chair! Honestly, its more comfy than any other chair in our house! It’s bigger than our last rocker so Don and I can sit next to each other which is nice.
I love the turquoise color of the fabric! It is a chenille fabric with some variation in the color which should help hide stains. Plus the fabric is durable!
I should also say that the delivery was really nice too! They unboxed everything and assembled the ottoman. I’ve ordered my share of pieces that you have to unbox and put together, then have a ton of cardboard to throw away, so this was a really nice perk!

My whole family is really loving this corner! My sister was wondering if I was sad to get rid of the old rocker since I’ve been using it since the first day my son came home from the hospital. I really don’t because I found someone who could use it (a young girl with a baby on the way). And I have such an amazing replacement!
Stay tuned for some more updates on this space- Don’s bed posts are coming up in a few weeks!
