Well friends, I’m calling it- my living room is decorated and 100% done! That feels so good to say! It wasn’t so long ago that we didn’t have a piece of furniture in here (February, to be exact). And now I’m so happy with it! I’ve recently added a few items that I thought I’d share along with some tips on how I mixed my glam look and added in some beach-y vibes.
what is hollywood glam decor?
I’d say that my signature décor look is Hollywood glam (or girly glam). What is that? It is using home items that are inspired by the golden age of Hollywood. The glam look is all about luxury with gold metallic accents complemented by soft pink (or other neutrals) and the use of rich layered fabrics. This is a very feminine look that uses statement pieces in a sophisticated way.
what is coastal decor?
Since I moved to Florida, I finally had the excuse to add in some southern charm to my home with a touch of the beach. I thought I’d put the definition of coastal décor here too. It is a bright and breezy room that feels like the beach because the color palette is drawn from the sea, the sky, and shells. It is all about a light and bright room that blurs the line between the inside and out. You’ll definitely want to use natural fibers that bring in warmth and texture. Lastly, the goal is for furniture to be more casual.
Start with the main items that bring in your favorite style
Since my signature look (and what I love most) is glam, I started with a base layer of those pieces- a pink velvet sofa by Gus Modern that I adore (plus its soooo comfy)! It came with gold legs that are perfect. Under that I laid a neutral rug with beautiful texture. The coffee table ottoman is as glam as you can get- a gold base with faux fur.
Add in accent pieces that will sprinkle in the second style
Next up, I started experimenting with more coastal pieces- the flower Daisie chair added in some natural rattan and casual vibe. I layered on some beach-y accessories: a piece of coral, a faux pineapple, a book on beaches, artwork of the beach, and a clam shell bowl. Of course, I layered in lots of greenery including 3 different palm trees.
1. Gold pineapple bowl / 2. Coral accessory / 3. Beaches book / 4. Rattan tray / 5. Florida print / 6. Palm tree brass candle stick / 7. Umbrella art / 8. Flamingo brass figurine / 9. Clam shell bowl
My final addition has been the Paloma bench. It added the seating I needed, but it is so airy that it doesn’t close the room off. Plus, the natural finish warms up the room. Isn’t it the perfect casual, coastal piece of furniture?! #obsessed
Keep to one color pallet so that everything feels unified
I have one true home decor love and it is using the color pink. Everything- no matter the style- flows from this rule. So for me, keeping with the color pallet of white, pink and gold is easy. Honestly, I’m creating my Barbie dream house and I like it that way- lol!

The wall next to the TV was feeling a little empty and unbalanced so I decided to add a gallery wall around it that goes from the floor to the ceiling. I used all art from Jenny’s Print Shop and selected a few coastal prints and mixed them with other art that matches my color scheme and adds interest.
Gallery wall tip- hang the pictures you love most at eye level. Don’t be afraid to hang you art from the ceiling to the floor to make a big look. If you’re worried about art getting knocked down, use this tip to easily secure it.
Remember this rule- if you love it, it’ll work
I have a few mid-century pieces (my end tables and planters). I’m not sure what category to put my media cabinet- crazy rainbow? Even though these pieces aren’t glam or coastal, I think they accent the room nicely. Plus, not everything has to match exactly, right?! These are all pieces I love and that makes them work.
Let’s recap- to mix two styles in your home here is how you do it:
- Start with the main items that bring in your favorite style
- Add in accent pieces that will sprinkle in the second style
- Experiment with small accessories that are inexpensive
- Keep to one color pallet so that everything feels unified
- Remember this rule- if you love it, it’ll work
How about one final before and after of the living room (I find these so satisfying!):
So there you have it! My living room is officially checked off the to do list! It’s been ridiculously fun decorating this room- I’ve really felt the freedom to try things that are a little outside of my comfort one since we’ll only be living here a few months. I’ve loved adding some coastal charm to this house and think that I’ll bring a few of the elements back to Utah with me. What’s your signature look? Do you mix it with another look?

Such a good post! I’m currently in the process of redecorating my bedroom and I’ve been having such trouble incorporating the glam elements I already have, with the beach/coastal elements I want! Definitely will use these tips!
