Friends- we are finally in our little beach house in Florida! To catch you up on everything, my little family had a work opportunity here and since we’ve dreamed for years of being snow birds and a few of our best friends live here, we jumped at the chance!
entry and dining room
When you first walk into the home, there’s a light filled entry. Its pretty big and we plan on our office going there since I work from home. You take one step up and you’re in the dining room. The landlord left his art and it has been moved to a closet because it isn’t my taste and I was scared of Don tipping over those 400 lbs statues…
kitchen
The kitchen is the star of the show right now! I love the white space and am adoring having a big island (except for the clutter it tends to attract).
Since we ate out pretty much every meal of our road trip, we’ve been exclusively been eating from home. Sometimes having a routine is such a good thing!
The kitchen is the only room that is accessorized nicely and I am loving it! This room feel like home and it is really nice to say and feel that.
living room
Right off the dining room is the wide open living room. And more art from the landlord that’s since been moved. We are grateful that he left the TV and that large plant though! One day this will have a comfy sofa, chair, and ottoman. I seriously can’t wait!
Right off the living room is this strange hall that leads to the other side of the house that is actually the landlord’s office. Since we don’t need access, we put the art here and put up a curtain to block the view and a little noise.
Here you can see how that quirky closet relates to the living room. Plus, there’s the bathroom. I love having a second bathroom (even if the toilet is broken in there right now- its waiting on a part).
Here’s a peek inside the bathroom. Its small but super nice with the floor to ceiling marble tile! We love the wood tile that’s throughout the house. It hides messes nicely and is easy to clean.
bedrooms
To get to the two bedrooms, there is a little step down and then a large hallway. I was originally going to put my desk here, but I like it closer to the main living room so I can do a little work while Don plays and be right there. I’m not sure if anything will end up happening in this little space, but it has potential.
This room was originally going to be the master bedroom, but it is now Don’s room. The reason we switched him rooms is because what was supposed to be his room, has a door outside to the pool. The doors on this house are SUPER weird and lock by pulling the handle up and unlock by pushing the handle down.
Because of the door design, Don can open every door going outside. We tried a bunch of baby proofing options, but because the door frame is metal and the door opens the opposite way as most doors (you push it out), we haven’t figured out a good option. Having a door that leads to the pool that he can open in his room is too dangerous so we switched rooms.
I was super sad about it because what is supposed to be the master has a bathroom attached:
Since Don is still so young it really isn’t a big deal to have to go through his room for the main bathroom. I specifically ordered furniture for the rooms to be reversed, so my brain had to adjust. But it is totally worth it.
Master Bedroom
Here is the room that was supposed to be Don’s room that is now the master bedroom ;). That door leads outside so it is nice for it to be in our room to let the dogs outside.
This corner is a little strange because that window opens to… the shower! It is so weird and we think it might have been added on purpose (this isn’t where the house was added on or anything). I don’t get it because I like to be left alone when I’m in the shower, not stared at so that shade will be staying closed- lol!
Instead of closets all of the rooms have these Ikea wardrobes. It isn’t my favorite, but it works. So there is the house! The good (I am in love with the white walls and pretty wood looking floors), the bad (that huge art everywhere), and the weird (that window that opens to the shower).
To be honest, even though it is our dream, its still been tricky- #life. The road trip was great, but unpacking all of our stuff wasn’t the most fun. We are slowly waiting for furniture to arrive so living without a sofa and a bed and a dining table has been challenging.
The best part has been spending more quality family time together. Don LOVES being outside- watering the plants, digging, swimming, and lots of trips to the beach! The weather has been a dream and we have really enjoyed the 70 degree weather! We’ll get settled soon and I will share the progress and the design as we do. Check back Friday for the reveal of my office!
