Last week I revealed our dining room and its been so fun to share! One thing I wanted to mention is the tribal colorful rug from Rugs Usa! Its been so popular on Instagram and I’m glad people are liking it (and not thinking all of the color is crazy)! Its affordable and adds some good personality to the space.
When we moved from Utah to Florida, the last room I packed up was the kitchen. We were running out of room at that point and only brought the bare minimum. We decided to not bring our dishes and buy some once we had reached our new home.
I figured that I could get new dishes and do it affordably AND do a DIY project! Win, win!
We were on a budget when we arrived in Florida (why does moving have to be so expensive?!) so I got some basic Corelle dishes. To add some personality, I decided to paint the sides of the bowls. This is such a fun and easy DIY, I hope you love it too!
diy painted dishes
Supplies:
- Dishes (make sure they are oven safe)
- Porcelain Paint (I used pink and gold. Paint thinner is optional)
- Paint brush
Step 1- paint your dishes. I tried a bunch of different patterns. The scallop ended up being my favorite. My son Don even helped with one. Its his favorite bowl to eat out of! It is fun to experiment with different looks. You can wash off mistakes before you bake them.
Step 2- let the painted dishes dry for 2 1/2 hours. Put in the oven at 300 degrees for 35 minutes. That’s it, you are done! They are now dishwasher friendly!
This is a really fun project because you can customize your dishes on a budget. It’d actually be a really great gift- wouldn’t this be perfect on a mug with a Starbucks giftcard? Or a gift for grandparents. I’m always looking for projects where you can put your twist on things and really customize it to a T! Happy decorating!
