Hi Friends and happy Friday! This has been a busy week! First of all, I was on TV sharing how to make my DIY mop wall hanging! If you’d like to see it, here’s the segment. I also did a photo shoot at my house- so happy dance because that means pretty pictures will be here soon! Here’s a sneak peek photo from the shoot.
A few weeks I attended Salt Lake’s Parade of Homes. If your city doesn’t do this, it’s an amazing interior design event. Basically, new builds can be in the parade and they are decorated. Its a great way to see the trends and what’s coming up in interior design. I thought I would show you my favorite trends that I spotted!
decorative molding
Turns out that fancy wall trim is trending. So are any wall treatments besides plain paint- board and batten, ship lap- it’s all the rage. I love that the possibilities with this are endless and it’s something that anyone could add to their home.
Isn’t it genius on this large stair wall?! Goodbye boring walls! I love that all you need is some trim, a saw, level, and nail gun and anyone could make this. P.s. do you see that gorgeous art? It’s by the same artist who painted the abstract art in my living room!
patterned carpet
Again, nothing plain and boring about this trend. I saw tons of carpet with interesting patterns and textures. Below was my favorite. I’m thinking when I finally replace the carpet in my bedroom it will be similar.
good details
Everywhere I looked there were well thought out details- fun curves on the door ways, wood on the ceiling in the alcove, beautiful trim on the bunk bed. Character is coming back to houses and I couldn’t be happier!
This was a set of two bunk beds for sleep overs. Doesn’t that look so fun?! It was in the same room as a giant ball pit, play house, and art table. My childhood definitely didn’t look like that 🙂
white homes
On the exterior of homes, I saw some beautiful trends as well. For homes I loved all of the white! I saw another home (not this one) with white painted brick- on a new house! I am sure this trend is from Joanna Gaines (of Fixer Upper)! How pretty is the white home with the black trim?!
black garage doors
Speaking of black, all of the garage doors I saw were black! I thought this was fun and not something I would have thought of!
After I left the parade I was super inspired! Seeing beautifully executed homes makes me want to make my house better too! What would you change about the character of your home if you could? For me, I’d add crown molding everywhere. And maybe some fun curved door ways! Have a happy weekend!
