My son is soccer obsessed, so we decided to give his room a complete makeover and turn it into a soccer-themed bedroom. Whether your child dreams of being the next big soccer star or just loves the game, these soccer room ideas are fun, personal, and full of charm. From custom wallpaper to a DIY soccer ball light, here are some of our favorite ways to bring a soccer theme into your home.
Soccer Room Ideas
1. Custom Soccer Wallpaper
When my son asked for soccer wallpaper, we searched everywhere but couldn’t find one that really felt like him. So we decided to get creative. He drew his own soccer-inspired art—jerseys, cleats, balls—and we used those drawings to create custom wallpaper.
Why it works:
-
It’s completely personalized
-
It showcases his favorite teams and players
-
It instantly sets the tone for the room
Want to do this too? Here’s a simple tutorial on how to turn your child’s artwork into wallpaper—it’s easier than you might think! Or, if you’re looking for ready-made options, here are some fun soccer wallpaper designs that work great in bedrooms and playrooms.
2. DIY Soccer Ball Light Fixture
Above my son’s Lego table, I wanted to add a little extra light. So we made a DIY soccer ball light—and it turned out amazing!
Here’s how:
-
Start with a standard soccer ball
-
Cut along the stitching at the base for light to shine through
-
Drill a 1/4″ hole on the opposite side for a cord (I used the IKEA Melodi light fixture)
-
Remove the interior bladder of the ball
-
Insert a rechargeable remote-controlled light bulb (no electrician needed!)
-
Attach to the ceiling for a fun, functional light source
Tip: The rechargeable bulb can be turned on/off with a remote and doesn’t need hardwiring, making this a super easy and renter-friendly project.
3. Soccer-Themed Wall Decor
For more soccer room ideas, don’t overlook the walls. Around the closet, I thought it would be fun to add decor that looks like mini soccer balls on the wall! to do that-
- I added split wood balls using Command Velcro strips to the wall around the closet
- Then I painted them to match the wallpaper
- Next, I added vinyl hexagons and stars cut on my Cricut to make them look like mini soccer balls.
We also added:
-
Team pennants to the closet doors—my son chose his favorite clubs
This kind of decor is easy to swap out as your child’s interests grow and change.
We also added team pennants to the closet doors—my son chose his favorite clubs. I hung them with Command Strip hooks.
4. DIY Poster Wall
Every kid loves posters. My son wanted all his favorite players on the wall, so we created a poster tunnel above his bed.
What we did:
-
Bought digital download soccer posters on Etsy
-
Had them printed at FedEx (each poster cost $1.50 to print)
-
Use permanent double-stick tape to attach all 36 posters
My son directed the layout himself, and now it’s one of his favorite parts of the room. It feels personal, immersive, and inspiring—exactly what we hoped for.
5. Soccer Rug + Final Touches
To finish things off:
- We covered some outdated artwork with a poster of his favorite player using Mod Podge. I used the Mod Podge to adhere the poster and also covered the poster to make it look more like a painting.
-
We placed a soccer rug in front of the fireplace to ground the space. This comes in lots of sizes and is very fun for kids since it looks like a soccer field.
-
We added a vintage wooden soccer ball found while thrifting. (Originally used to hold cigarettes, but now it’s just cool decor!)
Now my son has the soccer room of his dreams—filled with pieces that reflect his love for the game and his own creativity. Whether you go all out or just add a few themed touches, I hope these soccer room ideas help you create a space your child will love just as much.

I love your son’s drawings! And it’s so great that he doesn’t have a stereotypical “boy’s room”. There’s a lot of non-stereotypical stuff for girls (which is awesome), but SO little out there for boys.
Oh I agree! I love that girls can have whatever. But I feel like boys are still boxed into certain ideals. I hope that goes away with time.
I’ll miss the kittens and tiger wallpaper, but as long as your son likes it, that’s all that matters! Thanks for being a good mom and really involving your kid in this process. 🙂
Thanks! We still have the tiger wallpaper in the play room. He loves it, but I’ll miss the kittens too. It is up behind the soccer posters which I find very sweet.
