Hey friends! Currently, I’m on the hunt for cute decor for our home. And since I’ve always loved the beach and coastal vibes, I want to bring in a lot of tropical elements. It is Florida after all! So today I rounded up the cutest tropical home accessories as inspiration.
The Cutest Tropical Home Accessories
To start off, I’ve always loved the ocean and tropical locations. Growing up, I went to the beach in San Diego and those memories turned me into a beach girl. So now living in Florida is a dream come true for me!
Also, it’s just so much fun getting fresh inspiration to decorate our home with. Some of which I share with you below!

While I love tropical elements, I’ll definitely bring in other elements so that it’s chic and it doesn’t look “themed.”
Since it can be tricky to use tropical decor without getting the beach souvenir shop look, I want to share with you my top tips for decorating coastal style.
Further down, you’ll see some of the cutest tropical decor that I’m loving!
10 Ways to Add the Coastal Look to Your Home
#1 Add Coastal Artwork

First of all, a super easy way to bring in a bit of the beach vibes is with art. For instance, the palm tree art totally sets the tone in this picture above.
So if you love the coastal look, art is a great way to bring it into your home.
#2 Bring in the Plants
Second, an easy way to get the coastal feel is by bringing in lots of plants. But especially tropical ones!
Above is a picture of the Florida home we rented 2 years ago. And I totally went crazy with all the plants. It made it feel so beachy and I loved how it looked in there. Plus, I had the added bonus of the humid air so the plants really loved that.
If you’re looking for coastal vibes, plants are a quick win for getting it.
#3 Mix Patterns in Similar Colors

Another way to get a coastal feeling is to mix different patterns that have a similar color family.
For instance, this gorgeous room definitely has a tropical vibe with the bright colors that compliment each other.
Try layering abstracts, geometrics, floral or stripes that have similar thickness.
#4 Upcycle Old Furniture
Another great way to get the tropical look is by upcycling an old piece of furniture. Since white pieces of furniture are key in beach houses, you can paint an item you already have on hand.
Like this hutch that I just bought for $15 and painted! Here’s how I gave this baby a makeover.
Also, if you like the distressed look, that really fits in with the beach vibe. So don’t be afraid to paint something you already have!
#5 Tropical Wallpaper for the Win

An easy way to get the tropical look without making things too themed is with wallpaper. For example, this flamingo wallpaper adds some playfulness to a very sophisticated bathroom.
Also, if you’re afraid to commit to pattern, there are TONS of removable options available out there. I rounded up all the very best ones here.
Palm leaves, beach scenes, tropical flowers…the options are endless!
#6 Keep It Light with Sheer Curtains
A huge part of coastal homes is lighting! The more light the better. So using sheer curtains is one way to let in the light.
For instance, the first time we lived in Florida we put white curtains in Don’s room. It contrasted nicely with the sea wall mural and made the room feel nice and light.
#7 Don’t Do Too Many Tropical Items

Sometimes more is more, and that’s especially true with coastal decor. So, if you find yourself really loving something tropical, choose just a couple of pieces so it doesn’t get overwhelming.
For example, in the bedroom above the bamboo bed is pretty much the only “beach” item in the entire room. And it’s balanced out really well with all the other patterns and colors. Love it!
#8 Bring On the Texture!
When it comes to texture, consider it your best friend. 🙂 To get the coastal look, layer lots of textured items. Things like rattan, wicker, varying kinds of fabrics and so on will really give you the beachy feel.
For example, my living room has a lot of texture going on! The trelliage walls, leather couch, rattan decor and wool rug all play off each other. Derek and Lucy definitely approve!
#9 White Walls with Bright Colors

Another way to go coastal is to keep the walls white and bring in lots of bright color. Since the right shade of white can make a space look bigger and brighter, it’s the cornerstone of beach houses.
This cute room uses lots of the same shade of pink throughout. While the stripes might be too much for some people, I love this look! Especially with the pink palm leaf chandelier. It totally looks like a chic beach cabana room.
#10 Pick One Place to Go Bold
Finally, bright colors are super popular at the beach. So if you want to incorporate big, bright color, pick one place where you want to go bold.
For instance, I painted our entertainment center rainbow and totally fell in love. It’s actually when my obsession with rainbow decor started. (…And continued with my stairs, fence, fridge and sooo many more 😂).
You could start with a bright front door or even the exterior of your house! The possibilities are endless.
