Hey hey! Who’s ready for a dining room update?! As a recap, I’ve been working on my dining room week by week. So far I’ve shared the mood board, wallpaper installation, and reupholstering the chairs. I am super excited about this week’s update because…. Drum roll please! I have a new rug and art to share with you! Let’s talk about the rug-
rug
So I am a traditional rug lover. What makes a traditional rug? Think of a Persian rug- usually they contain a border, and have designs like florals, intricate patterns, and center medallions. It’s what I have all over my house and I love the pattern. I feel like it fits well with my style and can be blended with contemporary furniture too.
choose the colors
I fell in love with the Aria Rug from eSaleRugs. It has pink, lots of beige (hello, I have a two year old that will inevitably make stains- so I wanted something that will hide dirt). And the best part, it has gold that is so beautiful when it hits the sun! #love
choose the size
Next question- size. Usually, selecting a rug size for a dining room is pretty straight forward- the legs of the chairs should sit comfortably on the rug, even when pulled out for people to sit. It is also a good rule of thumb to keep 18” of bare floor exposed on the edges of the rug. For a round table, an 8’ rug works nicely with 4-6 chairs. Typically a 9×12 or 8×10 rug will work under a dining table with 6-8 chairs.
choose the shape
So at first I considered a round, but I wanted a more modern look. Plus, we turn our dining table into an oval with a leaf when people are over and we didn’t that to be awkward for eating with some chairs off the rug. So rectangle it is- which eSalerugs had tons of size options for this rug, which I loved. The issue is size- I would have really liked to get a nice big rug, but the room is small. The only rug that will fit in the room and allow for the doors to open is a 5’x8’. I wish I had a bigger space, but I still love the statement it gives!
set your budget
The last thing I took into consideration was price- I’m a thrifty girl and wanted something less than $300- the Aria Rug was $249 so I love that it is budget friendly! I ordered the rug and it arrived quickly (in three days!). The night it arrived we laid it out and fell in love- the pink with the beige and the hints of gold are so gorgeous!
rug reveal!
The rug is made with some metallic threads so it looks so beautiful when the sun hits! Plus it’s really comfy underfoot. My dogs are a big fan too!
Probably my favorite part is how good the rug looks with the wood floor and the wallpaper! The pink in the Aurora rug coordinates perfectly with the wallpaper. Pretty much, I’m obsessed!
art
For the art, I wanted something that isn’t too busy since there is a lot going on with the rug and the wallpaper. I went with a gold foil print from Minted that shows the street view of Salt Lake City (where we live- they also offer lots of other cities too!). It’s personal, pulls in the gold I love, and looks so pretty on the wall!
Isn’t the room looking pretty?! Stay tuned for the final reveal with the new chandelier! Here’s a sneak peek:
