Happy weekend! I’ve had a few non home decor related posts lately, so I am excited to report that I’m back with a makeover plan!
the dining room
Last month we finished our kitchen and it’s no secret that I am in love with how it turned out! Right next to our kitchen is our little dining room. Since they are so close together, the dining room benefited from the kitchen updates with things like crown molding, white paint on the walls, and a bead board ceiling. Last fall, the floors were changed from tile to wood. So it’s safe to say that this room is a perfect blank slate! Here is how it is looking right this minute:
before
mood board
The thing about a blank slate is that it’s a little boring with zero personality. All white with striped drapers, no art or accessories, and black chairs- boring! We can do better! Here’s the mood board so you can get an idea for what I’m thinking:
The chairs and table will stay the same. Although I will recover the chair cushions. They came as a muslin fabric that always needed to be changed out. Now 10 years later, the fabric has numerous holes and stains so it really needs a fresh cover! Here are the other dining room updates I’m thinking about making:
chandelier
New chandelier. I love the chandelier I have mostly because its sentimental to me, but it gets dirty SO fast and is SUCH a pain to clean. The black base is starting to look a little dated to me. All of the light fixtures in the kitchen are brass so I think that switching this out with help the room feel more updated and tied to the kitchen.
art
New art and wall hanging. The walls are blank in here so I think that i’d be fun to bring in some new art and soften up the walls with a woven wall hanging. A little color and texture will go a long way in here!
wallpaper
The walls in this room are small, but I’ve always thought wallpaper would look amazing in here! I’m thinking a pastel pink geometric pattern to add personality. If I do wallpaper, I’ll switch out the drapes for something white and neutral instead of the strong stripe.
rug
I have this rug in my living room and love it! I’m thinking the same one or a complementary rug would be nice in the dining room to further soften things up.
plant
I don’t have any plants in my home besides small ones, so I’d love to try a big plant in the corner of my dining room! It’d make such a statement and bring life to the space.
settee
So everything listed above will probably happen, but getting a pink settee might be a little tricky! It’d be the statement piece that this space so badly needs, but it’s an expensive idea! We’ll see if I can talk my husband into it 😉
I am so, so excited about these plans! I’ve always liked my dining room, but I am really looking forward to refining it and making it mine! Stay tuned for Monday’s post- I have some great home styling tips and a bunch of styling videos for you!
