There are officially 4 days until we move into our new house- Fairview Cottage! As a recap, after living in Florida, we moved back to Utah and bought a house. Everything took longer than I thought it would (mainly because of one big problem), but we finally get the keys on Monday! While we’ve been waiting, I’ve been designing the house.
I showed you the outside of the home last week (and how we named our house). This week, I thought I’d show you the inspiration for the interior.
One of the really exciting things about this house is that I have some furniture to pull from from two homes. Plus, I’ll be bringing in a few new pieces too. The house is very traditional, so the design will lean more that way with some hints of modern. And yes, I will be using lots of pink 😉
living room
First up, the living room. This space has patterned wallpaper which will be coming down. The walls will be painted white. I’m hoping to eventually add picture molding. I’ll be using my leather sofa with a pink chair and a new pink rug.

The stone behind the wood burning stove will be painted white which should tone it down a bit. The entry door will be painted pink and will be so cute! Do you see a reoccurring theme of paint?! This house will keep me busy!
kitchen
The kitchen is so full of wood tones, I could cry! The original plan was to live with it for a year or so and then tear everything out. For our family there are too many cupboards and not enough eating space (that tiny table is the only dining space).
But, I decided to do a $500 update and paint the cabinets. The lowers will be a blue green color and the uppers will be white (or I’ll tear them out and do open shelving). I’ll also be painting the fridge pink. I’ll get new hardware and a faucet and this room will be night and day different!
I’m wanting to build in a banquette area so we have a spot to eat our meals that will fit 3-4 people. Eventually we’re hoping to tear the wall down between the living room and kitchen to make a more suitable dining area. But until then, I think this’ll work.
laundry room
The laundry room is right off the kitchen and honestly, I feel lucky it has its own spot (for a house built in 1905 that’s rare!). It’s not pretty, but I have a vision so it can be pretty! I’m thinking about stacking the washer and dryer, covering up the water heater, and adding in a lower cabinet so we can fold laundry in here.
I was originally thinking about adding a sink, but I’m not sure it’ll need it with the kitchen sink a few steps away (although I’ve always dreamed about having a utility sink for DIY projects too…)

As far as styling goes, I’m envisioning a white washer and dryer and some sort of cute wallpaper!

There’s a small chance we could expand this room by a few feet, so that’d give me more room too. We shall see! For right now, the laundry room is functional so this is more of a phase 2 update.
bathroom
Off of the kitchen is a bathroom with a clawfoot tub!!! Aka- all of my dreams are coming true! I’m planning a big overhall to this room! First of all, the chair molding will be coming down and I’ll be putting up pink Chinoserie wallpaper!
Next, I’m planning on painting the tub. Originally I was thinking pink, but with the pink wallpaper, that might be too much. Now, I’m leaning towards gold! I’m thinking a new vanity, mirror, and toilet too. This’ll be a special space and I’m ridiculously excited to get everything started!
There’s a second bathroom that won’t be touched (that’ll be a more in depth renovation that we’ll tackle in a year or so). So for now, this’ll be the “nice” girly bathroom. That bathroom will be more gender neutral or possibly masculine.
office
Guys- I have a whole room dedicated to being my office! And its pretty big too!!! This is where my desk will go and my pink sofa too. I have some gold shelves that’ll go in here for craft supplies and props. I’m going to paint the walls white and am thinking about pink drapes.
I love the trend of adding neon lights to spaces and think one in here could be a fun way to shake things up! I don’t have the layout 100% figured out in here yet. But the fact that I have a room with a door where I can leave my work behind, is so exciting to me!
family room
At the top of the stairs is a bonus room with the reddest walls I’ve ever seen! Those’ll be getting painted white and I’m thinking about adding some fun wallpaper to a few walls too.
This room will be part family room and part playroom. I think this will be the room we hang out in the most! I’m excited to have a place for all of Don’s toys that is organized AND give him a dedicated play area.
don’s room
Let’s be honest- Don’s room is currently a little scary! This space is our first priority to revamp inside so we can get him settled. The cobalt blue walls will go white on top and light blue on bottom. The wallpaper will get removed. We’re thinking an “Andy’s room” (from Toy Story) theme.
The three bedrooms in this house don’t have any closet doors. There was curtains, but I’m looking into installing functioning doors since I’m not a huge fan of curtains on the closets. The windows will get solid shutters in here which will help with sleeping.
Right now there is a structure in the room that needs to get torn down (I think its like a loft bed?). We’ll use the vintage bed we currently have there.
The room won’t be a whole themed room, but will have bits from the show with a nostalgic/vintage vibe. There won’t be a ton of toys in his room (so he’ll actually sleep), but I’ll have a cute book shelf and am pretty excited about it. Don is THRILLED to have a Toy Story themed room!
master bedroom
The last room I wanted to share my plans for is the master bedroom. The bed will be going where the TV currently is. I’ll be doing matching night stands on each side of the bed and a vanity in there too. I’m planning on putting up wallpaper in there too. I just love me some pattern!
The wallpaper is nice and subtle which is perfect for a bedroom. The wall with the window is a bit awkward, but I’m planning on putting up some built in bookcases to deal with the weirdness. I ADORE how the inspiration bookcase is decorated with rainbow books. I’ve always wanted to do this and now is my chance!
Anyway, that’s a brief introduction to the design I’m planning inside the house. I’m super excited about the direction! I can’t believe that next week at this time I’ll finally be there and able to execute some of these ideas! This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience. Hi Eliesa! I’d love, love to come back to Florida for the winters! I should have picked your brain more at how you like your location. The second we can afford two houses we’ll be there! Or maybe I’ll take you up on your offer 😉
