My hall used to be plain Jane- just a place that you pass through. I decided to make it pretty. Which is tricky because it is so narrow with lots of vents and air controls. Should we start with a before photo of the project?
Grey walls, black trim, and carpet. Well, one way to get a new look is to change everything ;). I first painted the walls white (in January of 2016)
In June 2016 I added in the picture (or panel) molding:
I then put up new art (here’s a whole post on it). It looked so much better!
In November, we put down new wood floors and I decided it was time to completely finish this project. I painted the door trim from black to white.Next up was a new light! The old one was a builder-grade boob light that was just boring. I wanted something with personality so I went on hedgeapple.com in search for the perfect light. Well, I found it- gold, semi-flush, with beautiful detailing.
My husband put it up for me one day (thanks babe!) and it was such a great surprise when I got home! I LOVE it!
The next thing that needed updating was the art on the right side of the wall. It was an Instagram picture collage, but one day the frame broke when moving furniture so it turned into a blank wall. I added on of my favorite prints from Robert & Stella (no longer available). I wanted a little texture, so I put up a little banner from Target I had been hording in my closet just waiting for the chance to hang it up! It’s no longer available :(. All that was left on that wall was the controls to the swamp cooler that we haven’t used in the 9 years that we have lived here. I knew I wanted to use a canvas to cover it. I was going to buy one, but I remembered I had an old one in the garage- score! I used a print I had and glued it to the canvas. Free art and it covers up such an ugly item! High five!
Last, we needed a runner for the hall. The bedrooms are on one side of the hall and the living room on the other side. We need the hall as quiet as possible so Don sleeps as long as possible, so I really wanted a runner. I did some searching and found a pink rug on Plushrugs.com that I had to have! I figure since this is a small space we could go big and bold on color! The rug arrived while we were on vacation last week and I was SO excited to put it out!
I got the 2.5’x8′ size and it fits perfectly down the hall!
It’s super soft under foot and we all love that ๐
It’s really nice to have a space that’s completely finished! It took over a year, but its such a beautiful space now! Anyway, I just want to encourage you that if you have a space that you don’t like to keep working on it until you are in love.
