The kitchen in our house is the spot that looks the worst- in my opinion. The dining room is cute, but that kitchen, ugh! Since day 1, I’ve been planning a big old kitchen renovation. I have some exciting items on their way so I thought I’d share the Florida House kitchen plans.

Let’s dive right in with the mood board. There’s some exciting items that I’ve been keeping top secret! Like the top left Bird and Branch wallpaper. That’ll go on the wall with the window in the dining room. Look what a difference it’ll make here-
open shelving / table / chairs / chandelier / cupcake pink paint
I’m still really wanting to add a bench for banquette seating here. My husband isn’t so sure. I think it’ll really make things look more cozy while adding storage and we can seat 5 people at the table with it. Adding softness with a bench cushion would be nice. The down side is, some of the mural would be covered up. So I’ll wait & see once the wallpaper is up. What do you think?
The reason that I’ll be tearing out the cabinets instead of redoing them is that the quality is horrible. They aren’t original, they’re laminate, and the drawers barely open and close. There’s about 8″ of wasted space on the left side of the stove which is a lot in this tiny kitchen. Also, I’d like to tear out the rounded florescent lighting and bring the cabinets to the ceiling.
Lastly, I’d like to add a dishwasher since the countertop space to the left of the sink is currently occupied with a dish dryer. We’ll also be pricing out tearing out a wall to add a peninsula and open the kitchen to the living room. This’ll really modernize things and add a bunch more countertop and cabinet space!
Honestly, the thing I am MOST excited for is that I have appliances from Big Chill that are on their way!!! They should be here on Thursday of this week!!! I have dreamed of using Big Chill appliances for years in my home so this is a big deal. You know that I don’t believe in boring appliances so the fact that these’ll be a pastel turquoise will be super fun.
Above are all the custom colors available and you can see the color mine will be in! Eep! Here’s the mood board again so you can see the retro inspired appliances that I’ll be getting-
I’m seriously so happy I could cry! In my last house, I painted my fridge twice (once with rainbow stripes and once pink) to get the retro look. I also covered my stove in pink car vinyl. To be able to have fancy appliances feels really special to me. DIYing is wonderful! I’m just grateful to have appliances that look exactly how I want. You know?
So here’s what I’m thinking- light quartz countertops, white tile backsplash, brass hardware and faucet, white upper cabinets, but what color lower cabinets? At first I was thinking of doing pink lower cabinets like Studio DIY’s. But do you think that’ll be too much with the light turquoise appliances? I could do white lower cabinets too. I’d honestly love your thoughts!

I think white cabinets—to allow your eyes to rest—would be nice. Also, the wallpaper is so bold that I don’t think covering some of it with a banquette would be a bad thing. You’ll still get enough of it. And a banquette (WITH storage) would be such a plus. Love your style.

These are all amazing points! Thank you Busyness 😍

If anyone can pull off pink cabinets it’s you! I think with the white uppers, backsplash and countertops, a pale pink for the lowers would be sweet and tie in with the door and dining table chairs. Go for it! 💕

I think I’m loving the idea of light pink cabinets on the lowers, and I think banquet seating is great idea! It won’t cover up much more than chairs would.

I agree Sandra! I feel like pink is going to be sooo good with the appliances. Let’s see!

It’s going to look amazing Ashley! The banquet seating would add some storage which is always nice. I know whatever color you go with on the cabinets it’s going to look wonderful!

I am so excited for your kitchen to take beautiful shape. The color palette is so lush and rich, Ashley! I am a pink lover but think in this instance I would love to see white lower kitchen cabinets with the gold hardware. So happy for you as you wait to receive your new treasured appliances!
