When I was designing the rainbow stairs in my house, I knew I wanted to make the front of them something special—a real focal point that would welcome guests and represent our home’s personality. That’s when the idea hit me: a custom mosaic with the name of our house, Fairview Cottage. I thought I’d show you how to order a custom mosaic, because it’s actually easier than you’d think!
Since I already have gorgeous mosaic floors in my bathroom and laundry room from Mozaico, I thought I’d see if they could help me make something one-of-a-kind for this meaningful spot.
how to Order a Custom Mosaic
the ordering process
If you’re wondering, I started by visiting the Mozaico website and browsing their mosaic selection (watch out- they have tons of options and you WILL get sucked in!). Once I found a background mosaic I liked, I filled out their custom mosaic request form. Every Mozaico piece has a lifetime warranty, ships for free, and has a turnaround time of about 4–8 weeks—so I knew I was in good hands.
The form asked for some basic info: my name, email, phone number, and the desired size of the mosaic. I also uploaded a few helpful images:
-
The floral mosaic I like from their site as the background
-
A photo of the front of my stairs where the mosaic would go
-
An inspiration image from Pinterest that showed a house name in mosaic
In the notes section, I added exactly what I wanted the mosaic to say: Fairview Cottage est. 1905. Soon after submitting, I received an email with the first draft design, and it was such a helpful visual! From there, I was able to request a few tweaks to make sure the final piece matched my vision:
-
I asked them to enlarge “Fairview Cottage” and split it into two lines so it stood out more.
-
I requested a sans serif font for “Est. 1905” (and even attached an example).
They sent back a revised sketch, which was already looking so much closer to what I had in mind. I made one final request: could the font be changed to a blue color? I sent over a reference image with the exact shade I liked. The next sketch was perfect! I approved it, and the artisans got to work.
Mozaico has a new app out where you can use it to see the mosaic in your house! So once my custom mosaic was finalized, I was able to use the app to see how it’d look in front of my stairs. It felt like magic and really helped me picture what the final look would be. This would be extra nice if you’re deciding between a few different options.
installing the mosaic
Each piece of marble in the mosaic is hand-cut, which gives it that special, timeless look. In about 4–5 weeks, the finished mosaic arrived—and wow! Unboxing it was such a joy. I installed it using the same method I used for my bathroom floor (you can check out that tutorial here), and it turned out so beautifully.
The colors, the flowers, and of course, the personalized touch of our house name—it all came together in the most magical way.
price breakdown
Whenever I put a mosaic in my house, I’m asked about the price. This one was $948 (which includes shipping). This is a high-end option, and the price reflects the craftsmanship and care that go into creating custom art that can also be a functional part of the home.
If you’ve ever wondered how to order a custom mosaic that truly feels like you, I can’t recommend this process enough. Whether it’s a statement piece for your entryway, kitchen backsplash, or even bathroom floor, a personalized mosaic adds so much heart to a space.
Now every time I see Fairview Cottage spelled out in marble, I feel a little spark of joy. It’s not just a pretty design—it’s a piece of our story, captured in stone.
Thank you to Mozaico for gifting me this mosaic. All opinions are my own.
A custom mosaic would be fun for an entry like this, it could also go outside or inside a shower, or even a kitchen backsplash. It’d be great for a business as well. I really think the possibilities are endless! Do you like how this turned out? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
