As a decorator, I know what a difference lighting makes. A room needs furniture to be functional. If you want to turn a room from ok to a “designer room” with wow- you need great lighting. In our old house, I was always pleasantly surprised by how many people commented on the dining room chandelier when they came to visit. They loved it (as did I) and it made a difference in how the room felt!
Oh man, this picture makes me miss our Utah house! BUT I have this cute Florida house that I am working on making all mine! First item of note- we are renting. I am only doing rental friendly upgrades and got permission from my landlord to change out the lights. We are carefully wrapping up and storing the old ones and will install them when our lease is up.
lighting plan
I wanted to show you the lights that were here when we arrived. They weren’t bad, just not 100% my style. I am working with Kichler on the new lights for this house. I love their modern brass lights with all my heart. Most of the lights from my old house are from them (the dining room, bathroom, and entry). Plus they offer a huge variety of options in all styles and colors. Their lights are available to purchase at SO many retailers (you can find the list here).
kitchen
The lights over the island were the least of my issues with the lights in the home. I didn’t mind them, I didn’t love them. However, the kitchen can tend to feel a little cold. With all of the stainless steel mixed with white counter tops and white cupboards, this room needed some warming up!
We went with two of the Lakum pendants and I am in love with how it turned out! A subtle change, but mix that with the new stools and the kitchen is feeling so nice! They give the perfect touch of brass, but aren’t too much. The seeded glass adds texture and the light at night coming out of them is so pretty! I’ll be showing all of the lights both off and on so you can see how they look both ways.
dining room
Again, the fan in the dining room was functional and fine, but I wanted a chandelier over the dining table to really anchor the space! Plus I’m not a huge fan of fans in dining rooms since they cool down your food so quickly.
We have a round marble dining table on its way and it is going to look so, so pretty under the brass Ezro chandelier! I love the round shape of this chandelier and the sleek lines. Again, the dining room will need warming up and I think a brass light will fit the bill perfectly! P.s. if anyone else is wondering how high to hang their chandelier off the floor in a dining room- it should be 60-66″.
nursery
For the nursery, we needed a new flush mount. The bedrooms both had lights I hated. When you turned them on, the middle had a blue light that was so harsh on the eyes! So those were definitely a priority to update!
I choose the Armstrong Flush mount for both of the bedrooms. Again, its brass and contemporary and it’ll give some fun personality to the nursery! When I shared these on Instagram stories, I got SO many messages about them. Finding good looking flush mount lights can be hard! And these are gorgeous options! Also, enjoy the sneak peek of Don’s new mural.
master bedroom
In the master, the light sits right in the brass canopy of the bed and is not pretty. I needed something that would blend in better. The Armstrong Flush mount is looking gorgeous in here now!
The night after my husband installed all of these lights (bless his heart) it felt so much more like home with the warm lights.
conclusionusion
I wanted to give Kichler a huge thank you for working with me on this post! I am slowly layering in my own items and I feel so grateful to have lighting that fulfills my vision! Don and I had a mini Valentine’s Day party and he was so excited for those cupcakes! Spoiler alert, he only ate the frosting- lol!
Stay tuned for the reveal of the dining room and Don’s room in the next few weeks- I’ll share how the lights really shine when the rooms are complete!
