Moving to Florida and an empty home, my first priority was to get Don settled and comfortable in his new room. I started dreaming about his space a few months ago- I think a child’s room is a great excuse to have fun and by doing so, create an environment where his imagination can soar.
I’ve been embracing a coastal vibe for this home since we are minutes from the beach. I love a theme for a kid room and for Don’s new room, it will be “The Sea.” This quote by Louisa May Alcott epitomizes what I am thinking about for the room “I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship.” Ready to see the mood board?!

I am working with Overstock for the furniture in Don’s room- I love that they have beautiful, affordable pieces in all styles. I am a girl who decorates on a budget (and I know many of you are too!) so Overstock is perfect for that! Plus they have free shipping for orders over $45 and I never have to leave my house to shop.
The main star for this room is the gorgeous tufted day bed. I’ll be 100% honest that I wasn’t sure what kind of bed to do for Don. He slept in a crib until we left Utah (I never transitioned him into his big boy bed that I had all ready for him- he wasn’t quite ready).
Originally, I was going to order him a crib again, but it felt silly to get a new crib for a little boy about to turn 3. Then I had the idea that a daybed is like a big crib- especially if it is pushed against the wall! Plus, the trundle will be perfect when we have out of town visitors! It felt so good to come up with the right plan for Don’s current stage plus it’ll grow with him!
Although I was ready to move on from the crib, I still cherish having a rocking chair. Before nap and bed time I read Don a story and we have snuggle time. Its the perfect way to end the day. I love that this rocker from Overstock is tufted and coordinates with the bed. The squared off wings give it a modern feel. I’ll place the leather poof at the base for a foot rest.
I wanted kid size table and chairs for play and art time. How adorable are these white Windsor chairs with the mid-century table?! The second they arrived we quickly assembled them and went straight to tea party time!

The beauty of Don’s room is that it is the perfect blank slate- white walls and wood tile floors. It definitely needs softening up though! In addition to the furniture shown above, it’ll get curtains, a mural of the sea on that back wall, and a comfy rug.
The bookcase wall is complete that I revealed last week and will stay the same. I have a fun DIY end table planned and some cute details that I can’t wait to share! Check back in a few days for the full reveal!

I would love to know how you made the ship. I would love to do the same to a room in my house. I have a lighthouse theme, and the ship would be a wonderful addition.

Hi Peggy! I didn’t make the ship- I bought it on uncommongoods.com. Just search for ship kite. Good luck! Ashley
