Every year I am super interested to hear what Pantone chooses as the color of the year. Pantone’s pick definitely influences trends and can be a good forecaster of what is to come. This year they chose Living Coral as the 2019 color of the year and I was pleasantly surprised! Especially after last year’s bold Ultra Violet that seemed really tricky to decorate with.
why coral?

Coral is on the color wheel between red and orange (with a touch of pink). The first connotation most people have is living coral that grows under the sea. Coral is made of pieces that unite together to create a larger entity. Because of this, the color can represent community. It grows close to the surface, always reaching to the sun making it a joyful color.
In homes, coral is a warm, vibrant and energetic color. Since it is found in the ocean, it works nicely in tropical areas and adds a coastal vibe. The color feels fun, bold, and lively in homes, making it a great choice to freshen decor up (especially in the winter)!
15 ways for how to add Pantone color of the year coral to your home
Ready to add some coral color to your house? Here are 15 ways! I’ll start with easiest.
1 flowers
Scared to commit? Flowers are the easiest way to experiment with color! Let me suggest coral peonies- so pretty!
2 throw pillows
I like buying pillow covers that I can easily switch out with the seasons. A coral one will add a pop of color that is fun, but low commitment.
3 lamps
A lamp is another way to add a dose of coral to your room. As an accent color, it stands nicely on its own so its easy to try out without having to add lots of coral at once.
4 art
My favorite way to add coral through art is with flamingo art. Its whimsical and fun plus it can blends with lots of pink colors!
5 rug
Now a rug is definitely a bigger commitment, but it sure is fun! I love the colors in this rug- can’t you see how fun and bold coral is in this space?!
6 bedding
I love this tropical room! And I adore how the coral was added in via a few pillows and the duvet cover. It adds the pop of color this room really needs.
7 painted front door
I’ve always loved the idea of painting a front door yearly! And coral is a great option for that. It makes such a happy first impression.
8 accent wall
Paint is a really easy thing to change. I liked how in this room, two tones of coral were used. I think this color would be so cute in a teen’s bedroom!
9 drapes
Drapes are a great place to experiment with color! They are a bigger investment, but since they visually don’t take up a ton of space, they are a beautiful accent to a room.
10 stoolsImage Via
Stools like these are perfect for extra seating or for storage in an entry. OR they work for adding a pop of coral to your home!
11 chair
I love, love bamboo chairs! Make them coral and they’re even cuter! Keep scrolling to the bottom for the source for a similar one.
12 headboards
One of my favorite looks is a room with two twin beds- its so fun! And its definitely more fun in a color like coral (plus, isn’t the shape unique?!)
13 wallpaper
How gorgeous is this coral peony wallpaper?! I love it for a nursery! An accent wall in coral colored wallpaper is a fun way to add the color to a room.
14 settee
A settee is a small sofa and I love how they look in a coral colored fabric! Since its petite, it’s not too overwhelming (especially if the rest of the room is neutral).

I’ve painted a bunch of furniture in my home with chalk paint and love how it quickly changes the feel of the piece and the room. This will take a few hours to do, but is a budget friendly way to add any color to your house.
