In January I started redoing my bathroom. Now, four months later- it’s done! My goal was to take the same floor print, but upgrade it in every way I could dream up. I had issues like a leaky roof, an exposed pipe, peeling flooring, and a gap from a small vanity. All those issues are fixed and the room is so cute! Ready to see the pastel bathroom reveal?!

Let’s start with the video walk through of the room so you get an overview on how the space has evolved. Then, I’ll dive in with more details below:
If the video doesn’t work here, you can watch it on YouTube here. I’d be over the moon happy if you subscribed to my YouTube channel! Videos are actually released on YouTube first (usually the night before they’re published on the blog). Thank you!
Before
When we moved in 6 years ago, the bathroom was dark with a tiny window. Heavy drywall texture and beige floors.
It didn’t felt like me and was a little depressing.
Since then, we did a small renovation. I painted everything white. Unfortunately, the room developed a leak and during rainy weather, it rained inside too.
To the right of the toilet was an exposed pipe. Our house is old and the plumbing was added after the house was built so the cast iron pipe sat in the room. It attracted dirt and I didn’t like seeing it.
My vanity was cute, but too small. Its hard to see, but there was a 6″ gap on the side. The gap was difficult to clean and a waste of space.
For the floor, I installed peel and stick flooring. It stayed on for 5 years, but started coming up.
The ceiling had a strange angle- it was flat, angled, and flat again. That seemed strange and up for investigation. To be clear- the wallpaper was adorable. I’d done the best I could with it. But because of the leak, it was time to do a full renovation.
progress
I thought I’d walk you through the progress of the before pictures and how it is now. My goal with this room is to keep the same footprint, but make it as special as possible. I’ve tried to pack it full of ideas that other small house owners can use to elevate their petite bathrooms. Let’s get started!
After demo, we worked with a plumber (to put the pipe in the wall), electrician (to wire for sconces and to move the ceiling light), and roofer (to fix the leak), the room’s bones were ready. We laid a sub floor for one big reason-
The mosaic floor went in. What a stunner! I really wanted something unique for the floor and wow- it is such a pretty floor!
Next, insulation went in and that was followed by cement board. The toilet and the vanity were exciting additions because that made the room so much more functional!
I redid the vanity and it is such a cutie now! We started tiling. The walls are mostly affordable subway tile, but I added in pink pencil tile and a chair molding to elevate the look.
For the ceiling, my husband removed some lowered sections so we could have an angled ceiling instead of the previous strange sections. We installed a shiplap ceiling that I painted yellow. I wallpapered the walls. Crown molding went up as well.
It was another really exciting day when the tub went in! I planned a whole focal point here and love how it looks. For the tub I went with a tub alcove area to make it feel special and draw the eye up.
Next, we tackled the doorway by adding DIY French Doors. I like the idea of having two doors to really celebrate the view when walking in.
The hall side of the doors are pink and so cute!
Storage is so important for a small bathroom. We next added a skinny IKEA Sektion cabinet to the corner.
I also removed the old wallpaper and put up a custom design that I put together. The landscape wallpaper I previously had was beautiful, but too dark.
Last week, our final project was putting art over the storage above the toilet. I restored an old frame for it and then put the art on hinges for hidden storage.
Now that you’ve seen a quick recap of the progress, ready to see the after?!
Here is the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The pastel bathroom reveal!
Note, keep reading if you’d like to see the price breakdown and links to everything.

After- Bathtub Area
My favorite view in the bathroom is when you walk in and see the bathtub with the swagged curtains centered on the window.
I have a little garden still that sits next to the tub for holding bath bubbles or maybe a book to read while in the bath.
Inside the tub area we tiled to the ceiling since that’s a wet area. There’s no shower though- just the tub.
I hung a little cabinet to the right of the tub. It has bath soaps, lotion, and bath salts. It also holds my little collection of Coalport houses.
The ceiling is yellow shiplap and I really love how the painted beams beside the tub draw your eye up.
After- Vanity Wall
I think the vanity turned out so cute! It’s an IKEA hack and the little scallop base is my favorite!
Above the vanity is a DIY medicine cabinet, the hand towel, and hidden storage under the frame! Didn’t the scallop wallpaper border turn out so cute?!
The bathroom has a subtle swan theme. I love swans so this thrills me!
The wall tile is just plain, inexpensive subway tile. I think it works well as a backdrop piece to everything else that is going on. I splurged a pit on the pink tile as a way to add interest.
I switched out the toilet seat to a pink one. I love this detail! It’s an affordable way to play with color. Above the toilet sits a swan music box that plays “Swan Lake.”
After- Cabinet Wall
The cabinet on this wall doesn’t take up much floor space, but holds a lot as its super tall! I put some flowers on a column for the reveal. Most of the time, it won’t be there so I can hang up my outfit on the hook for after a soak.
Here’s another swan item- the carved onlay. I also love the little tassel. It was a gift from a reader- it belonged to her late grandmother. I’m so honored it gets to live in my house.
Right next to the tub are the towels. The back item is a bathmat. I really don’t want to cover up the floors, so this seems like a great solution.
After- floors
The floors are one of my favorite parts of the room! It looks like a rug how it runs underneath everything.
They feel so special! And they are! I think the color and pattern are perfect. I’m very happy with the mosaic floors!
After- French doors
I wanted French doors to enter the room. I didn’t love the old door, so finding vintage sidelights and repurpose them for French doors felt like a great decision.
I painted the outside pink (it was white) and left the inside wood. I’m thrilled with how they came together!

Grand Total- $19,180
So there’s the grand total. During this renovation, we were trying to be smart with money, but weren’t necessarily on a super tight budget. It was a “spend within reason” situation. Where if the price felt fair, I got it. If it felt outrageous, I didn’t. As you can see, my partners on this project really made it possible! This bathroom would be much more modest without them.
