Hi guys! I have been busily working on my stairs- I decided to do them for the One Room Challenge. The last you saw of my home renovations was my entry. We have decided to continue the wood floors up the stairs. That means that I need to paint the stairwell (which is an overwhelming task!), scrape the rest of the old paint off the stairs, and repaint the stairs (also, so much work! I’ll be using the process I started months ago but never finished). The above image is what is carrying me through all of the hard work. Isn’t that gallery wall beautiful?! It’s going to make all of this worth it! Before we dive into my plan, let’s visit how the stairs are right now:

The walls are a dark grey and a little scary. Those will go white (delicate white from Olympic).
As you can see, the stairs themselves are scary. I need to remove the rest of the wallpaper, take the rest of the paint off, and repaint the back of the stairs and the triangle sides. If you are wondering about why they are so bad, check out this post. The trim will also go white (again, I’ll use the Delicate White paint color). Then my husband will continue the wood floors up the stairs. These stair treads are on their way to cap the edge.
The old gallery wall will be taken down. I will continue the trim across the stairway. Here’s my inspiration photo for that:
So this trim will be extended across the stairs and look nice and classy. It’s going to be so much brighter without all of that grey! I have found some art that I will be using for the large gallery wall:
Abstract Art on Etsy from seller Motivated Wall Art- it’s a printable for only $6.60!
I really love this artist and am going to do the whole gallery wall with her art. I think it will really help bring the space together. I am so excited about this part! Geometric art here.
Here’s my mood board so you can see it all together:
We’ve got a long way to go, but I really think it’ll be good!

It is going to look so much brighter! I just did my stairwell and banister in white. Before, even with just the beige walls and wood tone banister it was a dark hole, now it is so much brighter. I’m still loving your whole trim idea and want to copy it so bad!! Unfortunately I have too many project for my husband now and no way can I cut those perfectly! I will follow along your progress to learn what to do and not to do:-) I love everything you have picked from the wood to the pictures.

Thanks Renee! I am sure getting rid of the grey will really lighten things up! And our stairs have been a mess for years so we are really thrilled to start working on them!

Hi Ashley, I follow you on IG, but this is my first visit to your blog, it is gorgeous! We are tackling our staircase as well, except ours is heading to our dungeon of an unfinished basement, lol. I love your plan, your gallery wall will be gorgeous, I am sure! Looking forward to following along. 🙂 Kari

Awww, Kari! Thank you so, so much for stopping by! Good luck on your stairs! I am sure they will be gorgeous. I’ll be honest, I am jealous of all of the possibilities an unfinished basement hold. We have an tiny condo and would love extra space. Please let me know when you start working on it, I’d love to check it out!
