As you probably know, I live with a lot of pink in my house! It’s a color that I love having around me, and my husband and son are happy with it too. So, I thought it would be fun to look into how living with pink at home affects us psychologically. Discover the psychology of the color pink with me!
The Psychology of the Color Pink
To start off, I wanted to see if colors really do affect us when we live with them, as defined by professionals. It turns out that color psychology exists! It says that different colors can affect our mood, emotions and sometimes even our behavior.
In color psychology, pink is considered hopeful. It is a positive color that inspires warm and comforting feelings, and it gives a sense that everything will be okay.
Pink is the Most Positive Color
Personally, I really try to look on the bright side of life. I think there’s so much to be grateful for and enjoy! So, having a positive color around me helps me feel happier and more positive.
On the other hand, the way you feel or think about a certain color is actually based on your own personal experiences and culture. Meaning, the way a color affects you can vary from person to person!
Back when I first started my blog, I had a completely different décor style. My condo had a lot of blacks and greys. While I loved it at the time, I also had a vision of a brighter place with more color!
But even for me as an interior designer, I had to get used to decorating with color. It was definitely out of my comfort zone back then.
However, pink has always been a sweet color to me, so I wanted to start experimenting with it. Slowly over time, I started adding the color into my décor into what it is today.
Now I can say that having pink around really does make me feel happy! Every time I see my fridge, my bright stairs, the office and all the other pink places in my house, I love it.
Pink is Calming
Generally, in western cultures pink is seen as calming, feminine and non-threatening. So, in the home pink can actually calm emotional energies. It can also soothe aggression or anger.
In fact, studies have confirmed that exposure to a lot of pink has a calming effect on the nerves. How cool is that?!
And pink also encourages approachability, warmth and is seen as a welcoming, nurturing color. So, that makes it a great color to welcome friends, family and guests. It’s also the perfect color for kids to be around because it helps them feel nurtured.
Pink Inspires Charm and Love
Further pink qualities include love, harmony and kindness. It inspires unconditional love, which is something that is very important to me. I really want Don to grow up feeling that I love him exactly how he is, no matter what!
Pink has so many positive qualities that support my happiness and lifestyle. If there’s a certain color that you’re drawn to, I encourage you to try and add a bit of it into your home. What colors do you like having around you? Let me know in the comments!

I love the color pink too, Ashley! In fact, I painted my kitchen and family room Benjamin Moore “Oyster” which is white with just a titch of pink. I love how it warms the room and it is still very light . Our family room has most of its natural light coming from one northwest window and it was previously painted brown. It was very dark and dreary but now it is light and there is a warmth in the color as well.

I love this so much Colleen! Color makes so much of a difference and I don’t think we even realize it sometimes.
