Today is an exciting day! It marks the start of my bathroom renovation. As I mentioned before, I’m going to keep the vintage tile and do some fun DIYs to modernize the space and make it feel more like me. First step, new faucet! Only one problem- I want to go from a center set faucet (with 3 holes) to a single faucet. But how do you change a 3 hole faucet to 1 hole?
Here’s my bathroom vanity before we started working on it-
My idea for the bathroom is to take the best parts of the room and make some tweaks to see how much I can modernize it without a full gut job. For the vanity, I thought we could take off the doors and make our own. The originals were laminate and looked and felt cheap.
I figured, we could take off the doors, make our own, and really customize them! We haven’t gotten to the side of the vanity, but here’s a sneak peek of the new fluted doors.
So much better already, right?! I’ll have a tutorial soon on this when we finish up the side.
my new bathroom faucet
Besides the new cabinet doors, let me introduce you to the other star of the show, my new bathroom faucet! It’s from the faucet company- Lulani! I actually got to be one of the first people to test out their faucets and let me tell you, the quality is superb!
I choose a bathroom faucet from their Aruba collection in gold. It’s modern and sleek and is really helping to elevate the rest of the space. The drain is beautiful and pulls in the brass accents from the room. You just push on it to close or open it. The faucet was easy to install and looks divine as the focal point in the room!
Each of their faucets comes in a bunch of colors. You have to see the rose gold- it’s really beautiful! The prices are fair for the high end quality. The styling on each faucet is really beautiful with modern lines.
The faucets will be available for purchase in about a month (at the beginning of June 2020). If you want to get a notification when there’s stock, just enter your email on the product page of your favorite faucet.
how do you change a 3 hole faucet to 1 hole?
To install the new faucet, I had a big design dilemma- how do you change a 3 hole faucet to 1 hole? I Googled exactly that and started brainstorming ideas. I thought I’d share what I came up, some sources, and prices.
option 1- Deck Plate
A deck plate is a metal plate that covers two of the holes and leaves the center one open. This option will work both for bathroom or kitchen faucets. Though the dimensions will differ. For a bathroom you’ll probably need a 6″ plate and in the kitchen, a 10″ plate. Though make sure to measure so you get the correct size.
I’d suggest getting a deck plate that matches the finish on your faucet. This option will cost between $10-$20. I ended up going with a deck plate for my bathroom vanity- this brass one. Here are some different colors:
Another note, some faucets do include deck plates so keep an eye out if you’re switching out your faucet.
option 2- Hole Cover
The second way to cover extra holes on a sink surface is with hole covers. These are metal or plastic circles that screw on to cover the hole. Again, this option works for either the bathroom vanity or kitchen counter. These come in different diameters so make sure you get the right size for your holes.
I’d suggest getting a hole cover that matches the stone color of the vanity/countertops or the color of the faucet. This option will cost between $6-$15. Here are some different options-
To me, they look like little buttons over the stone. Personally, I think they look a little cheap and that you’re just covering the hole. This is an easy fix, but it kind of looks like an oversight. If you got something the same color as the stone (like, I’d get white), it might blend in and be hard to see.
option 3- Change out the stone/top
Changing out the stone on our vanity is something I considered for my bathroom. It was actually going to be the next step if the deck plate didn’t work. This probably isn’t an option for a kitchen (unless a renovation is already planned). For a bathroom, if the stone is chipped but the vanity is still nice, getting a new top with one hole could be a good option.
For this one, search the term “single hole drop in bathroom sinks.” This option will cost between $110-$200 for a 24″ bathroom vanity (though you can get a fancy top for $900+). Here are a few options-
option 4- soap dispenser
The previous option wasn’t great for kitchen, while this one isn’t great for a bathroom since the holes are so close together with centerset faucets. But adding a soap dispenser, or dish soap dispenser, or a button for the disposal would be perfect in a kitchen! This’ll save you counter top space and can be a high end look!
This option will cost between $15-$50 per item. Here are a few options-
option 5- get a new vanity
The last option is for a bathroom. It’s to get a totally new vanity- new base and new stone. My problem with this is that 1. it’s somewhat wasteful to do all that if the only issue is extra holes. 2. This is an expensive choice and 3. it’s hard to find 1 hole vanities.
This option will cost between $350-$500 per item. Here are a few options-
I hope if you had the same predicament as me that this’ll help you come up with a suggestion that fits your home and budget. And if you’re following along for the bathroom renovation, stay tuned! This week will be exciting with some fun DIY’s like the rest of the vanity recovering and a DIY medicine cabinet and more!
