One of my favorite weekends of the whole year is when my son and I put up our Christmas tree in the living room. We put on a festive record, pull out the decor, and get started. The living room took a full day of decorating. This year I went for the theme rainbow village. It combines my love of vibrant hues and house motifs and makes for a colorful living room Christmas decor.
Side note, I put my holiday decorations up a few weeks ago. My dad died recently and it was actually pretty comforting to have my house super cozy and full of lights. I was so glad I took the time to make my living room magical.
Earlier this year I worked with eBay on my Kitchen renovation and I was thrilled to work with them on this room too. I frequently shop on eBay (as in I buy things multiple times a week from their site) so when they let me pick out my dream Christmas decorations, I was so excited! Ready to see?!
This blog post was written as part of my collaboration with eBay. All opinions are my own
COLORFUL LIVING ROOM CHRISTMAS DECOR
CHRISTMAS TREE
I thought I’d go over each part of my living room decor starting with the star of the show- the Christmas tree. I’m going to link to everything I added this year below. However, some items are from when I first put together a rainbow tree a few years ago and they’ll all be linked in this blog post.
One of my favorite additions to the tree is the rainbow start tree topper– isn’t it perfect?! I like how it pulls everything together and is vintage inspired.
ornaments
For the ornaments, I arranged them on the tree in rainbow order. I thought I’d show a few of my favorite additions-
You know how much I love my dogs. They’re both the breed Cavalier King Charles spaniel. I loved finding ornaments that are customizable! I got this ornament for Derek and this one for Lucy. The price is affordable and they shipped super quickly. These would make amazing gifts for a dog lover!
Next, I found these two chinoiserie vase ornaments (a wide vase in yellow and a tall vase ornament in green). I collected similar vases and ginger jars for my kitchen remodel so this was a fun nod to that huge project.
In the days after putting up the decor, Don sat in the window and played with the Advent Calendar I made and the nutcrackers I painted. Sure, he’s ripped the arms off a few of them, but it’s so cute I really don’t care. What a beautiful backdrop to his memories.
I got this cute little green car ornament because it reminds me of my grandpa. He’s fixed up a bunch of “slug bug” cars over the years. I love finding meaningful ornaments that I can unwrap and smile about every year.
dhile that last ornament was sentimental, this cake ornament I mostly got because it made me smile. I was a wedding planner for awhile and so I love good wedding cake. I also made an ombre cake similar to this to celebrate living in this house for three years.
BOTTLE BRUSH RAINBOW FOREST
For years I’ve loved bottle brush trees (I even share how to dye them different colors here). They’re so whimsical and happy! This year I took that love and created a forest- lol. eBay sells tons of bottle brush trees, but I found the prettiest ones! They come in sets of 6 in different colors. I got rose, pink, yellow, green and blue.
Don’t they look so pretty on this wall with the Santa art on the TV?! Side note, I explain how I add art to my TV and links to holiday options here.
COLORFUL MANTLE
Next, I’m excited to show you probably one of my favorite parts of the room- the mantel. I really went all out over here and it makes me SO happy!
For the top of the mantle I strung colorful garland along the mirror. Then I hung a wreath on the mirror with a command hook. I love the white pom poms are neutral and then the colorful ornaments on the wreath pull everything together.
mantel village
The rainbow trees that I put on either side of the mantle are probably my favorite addition to the room. Each ornament on the trees are glass and they look SO beautiful with the ombre tones. They’re a bit of a splurge, but totally worth it in my opinion.
Along the front of the mantel, I put up a village of houses. I think these look so sweet all together. The dining room is decorated with more village houses and so this feels like a natural extension of that space. On the mantel, there’s the blue Mill house, lavender house with the scottie, and the barn with the horse.
With each stocking, I hung an ornament that corresponds to the stocking’s owner. A little customization goes a long way! The one for myself, my husband, and son I bought in previous years. Since I added stocking for the dogs this year, I got dog ornament that look like them! They’re glass and I love how much they look like my dogs!
I got this black and white one for Derek and this ruby one for Lucy. The same seller on eBay sells TONS of different breeds of dogs in beautiful glass ornaments.
A few weeks ago, I thought, wouldn’t it be so fun to do rainbow stockings?! Luckily I found the best seller on eBay for this! They sell tons of colors of stockings so I was able to find the perfect options for what I wanted and then they stitched my family’s names on them. They turned out SO good! And I was impressed at the quick turnaround time. I cherish these.
COZY LIVING ROOM
For the living room side of the room, I did some big changes including switching out the old rug for this mint floral rug! I think it works nicely with the pink drapes and balances it nicely. I also switched out the lamps for new white lamps that are the same on each side of the sofa.
On the coffee table, I added a large pink village house with some ombre bottle brush trees. One end table has a townhouse village house and the other one has a white House with a pink roof and little birds to continue the village. Can you tell that I’m obsessed with these gorgeous houses?!?
pillows
My sofa didn’t have pillows on it (mostly because my son loves to throw them on the floor and never pick them up), but I wanted a really cozy living room so I added some pink pillows with really cute trim. I also added the softest white faux fur throw blanket. Everyone wants to cuddle up with it.
I love needlepoint so I searched eBay for Christmas pillows. I found the cutest vintage pink one! Look at that sweet Santa! If you’re into this look, there’s lots of needlepoint holiday pillows that are beautiful, on trend, and affordable.
OK, so now I’ve shown you my colorful living room Christmas decor. Which part is your favorite? I love the tree, the mantel, and the rainbow bottle brush forest!
I feel so lucky to have been able to shop eBay for all these beautiful finds. Thanks for supporting the brands that support my family.

This is all so pretty! I’ve never seen a colourful house as well done as yours! I really love the bottle brush trees and the Christmas tree.

Did you paint that table yourself with the shutter doors or did you buy it that color? I have a wooden one I am thinking of making over but not sure what to do.
Ashley Wilson says
I painted it that color. It used to be black. Go for it!!!
