I was in the mood to make something today and when I saw this cute wreath, I was totally inspired! Of course, I had to put my own spin on it. Ready to see how to make a pumpkin rainbow wreath?! P.s. one of my fall decorated shelves was rainbow if you’re wanting a more colorful take on Halloween or autumn decor 😉
how to make a pumpkin rainbow wreath
Let’s start with the video tutorial so you get an overview on what I did. Then, I’ll dive in with more details below:
If the video doesn’t work here, you can watch it on YouTube here. Since January I’ve been adding videos on YouTube. If you have a second and could subscribe to my channel, I’d really appreciate that!SUPPLIES
- 12″ foam wreath form
- 1 stem faux maple leaves- mine are from Michaels. I can’t find similar ones online
- mini pumpkins (I got 2 mesh bags from Michaels for a total of 24 pumpkins and gourds)
- floral wire
- hot glue gun
Paint- 1. Beloved Pink, 2. Shy Smile, 3. Ballet Rose, 4. Coral Fountain, 5. Lamplit, 6. Corn Stalk, 7. Frittata, 8. Frosted Sage, 9. Spring Reflection, 10. Country Weekend, 11. Serene Breeze, 12. Casade Green
Here’s the pumpkins I used- I got two bags for $10.
step 1
This wreath is SUPER easy to make! The only tedious part is painting all of the pumpkins. I had 24 pumpkins to do and 12 paint colors. So I painted two pumpkins each color. To keep the bottoms from getting smeared, I put pins in a cardboard box to elevate them. Note, toothpicks would work better. I did a second coat of paint on most of these.
step 2
Next, paint the wreath form a neutral color. It depends on the colors of your leaves what color the form to be. You just want it to disappear.
Since the form doesn’t have a way to hang, add floral wire to the wreath form and create a loop. That way you’ll be able to attach it to a hook or nail.
step 3
Once all the paint is dry, all you have to do is hot glue on the leaves and pumpkins. I started with leaves- they were attached to a stem, but I cut them off. Then I glued them on one by one. I thought this would give the wreath a soft base. It also made it look fuller. I probably would have needed 3 bags of pumpkins instead of 2 if I’d skipped the maple leaves. Plus, who doesn’t love maple leaves?!
After the leaves are attached, finish up this project by hot glueing on the pumpkins. I was afraid of spacing them out too far, so I laid them next to the door to make sure I loved the layout.
after
Ta da! My rainbow wreath went right out on my she shed door. I LOVE it!!! p.s. notice the big pumpkins on the ground- they will end up inside but until then, I love them here!
Admittedly, this wreath turned out a little more pastel than what I wanted. Doesn’t it kind of look like an Easter wreath from far away?!
Even though it’s a little more Easter-y than I prefer, I still love it! What color would you paint your pumpkins?! Let me know in the comments! I think this project would be SO cute in a variety of colors. Now excuse while I go outside to stare at these!
Updated- the pumpkins had a hard time staying on the wreath with just hot glue. I went back with floral wire and poked the wire to each pumpkin before wiring it on.

I really love this! Now I know what those foam rings are for. I do some yarn crafts (badly) and always wondered about those.

Thank you Cara! And yes the foam rings are great for wreaths! You could probably make a fun one with yarn.
