Good morning! Don’s nursery is a special room for me. It’s the room I poured my soul into decorating before he was born. We’d been scrimping for years to pay off our debt so I decorated his nursery on a budget, and filled it with as much love and personality as I could on as little as possible (you can see how his room looked when I started this blog over 2 years ago here). We’ve made a few updates, so I thought I’d share those with you!
rug
The biggest update is the new rug from Well Woven! I know I am crazy for putting a white rug in a kid’s room, but he never has food in there so I am hopeful it will stay (somewhat) white. It is ridiculously soft and plush! Don’s favorite new activity is rolling all over it- it’s so hilarious!

black and white
This one isn’t really an update, but I never shared why I used this wallpaper here. Years before Don was born, I was in school and learned that babies see black and white first. The strong contrast is stimulating to babies and helps develop their sight if they are surrounded by it. That is one of the big reasons I have the black and white animal wallpaper on the wall. I love that Don has grown to love animals so it still very much fits his personality! One of my favorite things is using decorations for your house that help your family live a better life. I figure with the wallpaper it helped his eye sight, and it added the personality and fun I wanted for this room. Win win!

play table
For Don’s birthday party, I got him a table from a thrift store for $10, painted it, and we used it for a kid’s table. It is usually in the living room, but sometimes we bring it in his room for playing too. It’s so nice to have a table just his size!
gallery wall
We’ve updated the gallery wall by his light switch with some new prints. I love changing small things like art to keep the space feeling fresh!

Don still loves riding his play elephant. I used it when he was a baby as a prop for marking his monthly growth, so its a sentimental piece for me!
The least glamorous side of Don’s room is where his changing table is. I should probably paint that changing pad holder, but I’m going to start potty training in 6 months so I might not bother 😉

His wall above his bookcase hasn’t changed much. The shelves are constantly getting changed up as we add in new books and toys.
A favorite new book we have been reading is Kingdom of You (from the Lost My Name company). This book is super customized with Don’s name and things he likes like ice cream and animals! I love paying attention to what Don loves and incorporating them into what we do, talk about, and read about. I believe that by encouraging his unique attributes, it helps him see that it is good to be yourself! The illustrations in the book are beautiful and detailed that show the customization. There are a bunch of options, so you can find what fits best with your child (princesses and pizza- yes and yes!). If you’re looking for a good gift for a child, this would be the perfect option!
conclusion
Small updates like a rug, art, and accent furniture can keep a room feeling fresh and updated. Do you have any rooms that you’ve recently changed up?

This room is absolutely adorable! What color paint did you use on his little table?
My budget nursery decoration mostly just involved sticking some cute airplane wall decals near Baby’s changing table (my husband is a pilot and wants someone to follow in his footsteps–which means Baby will probably grow up to be a fireman or something totally different haha!). 😀
I love your photography! #somedaygoals
Hi Anna! That is such a sweet story! The table is painted Sea Glass by Martha Stewart. You can get it mixed at Home Depot in Glidden paint with #MSL129. Thanks for your comment! I’ve slowly worked on my photography and really appreciate your kind words!
