don’s room
The oldest rug we have is three years old. Our last home had carpet through all the rooms for most of the time we lived there. When we switched the carpet for wood floors, this was the first rug we purchased for our living room. Recently, when we moved into our current space, it worked best in Don’s room.
I don’t know if you can tell, but that sweet rug is sure dirty! There are stains from 3 years of it being in our main living space and never being properly cleaned. Sure, I spot cleaned the major spills, but it was time to get this rug back in shape!
getting started
I cleared all the furniture off and gave it a good vacuuming. The pattern and colors on this rug hide the stains nicely, but they definitely were there!
On the large, noticeable stains, I started by spraying them with the Expert Pet Spot Treatment.
The Hoover SmartWash Carpet Cleaner was easy to assemble. I put water in the top tank (the bottom one is where the dirty water is sucked back up into the cleaner). In the back there is a dispenser for the solution where I used the Expert Pet Carpet Washer Detergent.
Then it was as easy as vacuuming! Going forward, the carpet is being washed (the solution is combined with the water in the perfect amount). As you pull the cleaner backward, the water is sucked back in and the carpet gets dried. 
This part was super satisfying! You can see in the picture, hair balls that were pulled out of the rug! This is after I already vacuumed! The water going back into the Hoover SmartWash Carpet Cleaner is brown- showing how dirty the rug actually was.
After passing over the full surface of the rug a few times, I was thrilled with how much cleaner the rug already looked (even when a little wet)! I turned the fan on and by nap time- a few hours later, the rug was dry and I was able to put Don’s room back together. I was in the cleaning mood after I easily cleaned Don’s rug, so I decided to tackle one other project!

When I was unpacking the Hoover SmartWash Carpet Cleaner, I got really excited because I realized that I could use it to clean my pink sofa! Now, I love this sofa, but it sure gets dirty easily! Every two weeks, I usually get a wet rag and spot clean the stains. But I was behind in my routine, so this was the perfect chance to get the sofa clean! The hose attaches to the front of the Hoover SmartWash Carpet Cleaner. To use, you just pull a trigger on the handle to spray down the cushion (this would work nicely on carpeted stairs too)! Then you go over the same spot again without holding the trigger to dry that spot. Again, I went over the whole sofa (and the pillows) a few times until I felt like the sofa was clean.
Guys, it looks so much better already! The sofa is still drying in these pictures, but the stains are gone and it looks as good as new! After finishing up, I gave the carpet cleaner a good cleaning- it doesn’t take long, but getting all of the dirt, water, and solution out before storing will help it run better for longer.

I have always been interested in the carpet cleaning vacuums. I desperately need to clean our living room shag carpet, which may have been a mistake with an almost 2 year old and pets.
