In my younger years, I did my makeup sitting on the floor in front of a floor length mirror. My husband and I were renting at the time and I totally burnt a spot in the carpet from my curling iron- oops!
I decided that it was time to invest in a vanity and chair. I spent around $200 and fell in LOVE with the luxury of being able to do my hair and makeup sitting in a little spot designed to get ready. That vanity lasted 10 years (that’s it in the picture above!)- I used that little desk everyday until we moved and I accidentally broke the glass on the top.
When we moved into this house, I didn’t have a vanity and got ready in my bathroom. Which is fine except the sink is tiny so my makeup would roll around in the sink. I missed my vanity! So I went in search of the perfect option to last me the next 10 years!
tips for finding the perfect vanity and chair
As I was searching, my criteria was that the vanity MUST have storage– at least one drawer to store my makeup and brush. If you’re looking, I’d highly suggest this being a must have for you too! Makeup is messy so being able to stash it away is nice! I really wanted something that was cute and fit my bedroom. I have a larger space, so I wanted a bigger desk. Lastly, I wanted a comfortable chair that had some style.

master bedroom vanity and chair
I ended up going with the Bodo white and brass desk from Grandin Road. It has beautiful gold details and I really like the shape of the back. This desk has ample storage and the drawers open nicely- yes!!! For the chair, I choose the Ellie Accent Chair in Lilac (also from Grandin Road). I love the soft color and the channel tufting on the inside is gorgeous! Plus this chair is ridiculously comfortable- possibly the most comfy in our house!

As you might know, my master bedroom is under construction, so the vanity and chair aren’t in their final spot. But that doesn’t stop me from using it everyday! I love how the more modern desk pairs with the feminine desk. (ps. You can see more about this mural here)
Are you a vanity person? If you don’t have a nice place to do your makeup, I’d totally suggest figuring one out! It is truly a luxury, but it can be an affordable one. Plus if you’re itching to add your personality to. your home, this is a great place to do it! I’ve round up some of my favorite vanity / chair options. Which one is your favorite?
