Oh my office- the poor space has been so neglected. Because it’s a bigger room right off a front door, it is the “set it and forget it” room. The box holding room. The toy storage space (before the playroom was complete). Pretty much just a mess. Well, it was time for that to change!
The problem? The layout. Guys, this room is such a weird space! 3 door ways, 1 closet, and 3 windows. Plus the room is in the shape of a T. Let me show you:
office floor plan
A few months ago, I worked with Modsy to figure out my living room layout and it was SO helpful! If you haven’t heard of Modsy, they are an online interior design service that create the most gorgeous life-like renderings of your room’s design that I have ever seen.
My living room was fine and then I saw from the design that Modsy made for me exactly how amazing my space could be! So I knew they could help with my office woes. Their services are SUPER affordable (starting at $69 for the basic package). Plus I have a special code for you!!! Use ATHOME for 20% off all packages (except the basic package).
I took some pictures of the room and submitted them to the designers at Modsy. Here’s what I sent in (beware, it wasn’t pretty)!
before
The space was pretty crowded with furniture for the playroom makeover. The crazy thing is that I got more furniture that very day so this was not as bad as it got! I had one desk, a sofa, and a table. Even without all of that extra furniture, the space wasn’t working for me. My husband and I both work from home so we needed a second desk. We didn’t use the table, so that needed to go.
When I submitted my photos and measurements of the room, I also took a style quiz on Modsy’s site to help the designers match my room to my style. Here’s what I got-
style quiz
I found that to be spot on! I especially love the line- “why have just one statement piece when you can have five?” Lol- that’s exactly how I feel! After the style quiz, I also gave them a list of furniture I already own that I wanted to incorporate in the room. It costs $15 per piece so they can build it in 3D, but if you have a piece you want to see in the room, I do think its worth it.
the renderings
The first option has the sofa on an angle (which I didn’t love). The styling is so cute though!
I fell in love with the layout of the second option! I like how open it is and thought the two desks under the windows was perfect. The only thing I didn’t like are the dark walls. Since my package came with unlimited changes, I asked for the walls to be changed to my favorite white. Want to see how that looked?!
Perfection! This room has always felt a little choppy with the 1/2 grey and 1/2 white walls. Seeing it all white definitely sold me on painting. I was now ready to start working on the room.
As a side note, Modsy also includes a 3D style editor. It’s pretty cool because you can swap out items in your design for other furniture or decor. So you can make tweaks to the layout and then it’ll create a new rendering for you! Here’s how it looks-And you just click on an item and choose something else from Modsy’s catalog of beautiful choices. As a tip, if you have furniture you want to use in the room, but don’t want to pay for the custom rendering $15 fee, you might be able to find a similar piece of furniture a this step and save a little money.
shopping
Another really cool thing about Modsy is that they make it really easy to shop your design! Above, you can see all of the white dots indicate shapable items! You can have exactly what you see in your rendering. Plus, if what you want comes from a bunch of different companies, you can just buy them all through Modsy’s shop and they’ll take care of the rest.
after
After a few weeks of working on the room, I finally have it all done! I thought I’d share a few after photos with the 3D room photos from Modsy-
file cabinet / desk with spindle legs / chairs no longer available / bus art / palm tree art / street map art / rainbow wall hanging / gold shelf brackets / sheer window hangings / mid century desk / gold lamp / gold planter / coffee table / pink ottoman / pink sofa / rainbow pillow / rug (no longer available) / ceiling fan with white fan blades / Ultra Pure White paint color (in eggshell) / floral wall mural / peonies wall art / flower credenza / gold shelves
video tour
If you’d like to see a quick video walk through of the room, I took a video of the space:
If the video doesn’t work here, you can watch it on YouTube here. P.s. I’m trying to build that page up, so if you’d subscribe, I’d really appreciate that!details
I love this view with the desk next to the pink door! This is my desk. Before our renovation, I worked mostly of the sofa. So having a dedicated desk feels so fancy! Oh, and I’m a bit more efficient with my work too. Win win!
In the corner, between the desks, I hung some shelves. I’ll have a whole DIY on this project coming up soon!
This is my husband’s desk. Now, with the bigger rug, the whole desk fits on it. We’re rarely both working in here at the same time, but just having dedicated desk spaces is really nice.
On the side wall, I have this bookcase that I recently restyled. This is one of my favorite views in this room!
And then there’s this view! The new rug that fills the space really makes a statement! I love the colors of it- especially with the new DIY coffee table. While we’ve been renovating other rooms, this sofa has been blocked behind other furniture. Having it accessible and looking so pretty really makes me happy!
I wanted to say thank you to Modsy once more for helping me with the layout on this room! I would have never gotten it this far without them! The room feels divine and it works for our family. Having a dedicated office has been such a dream come true for me. And now that it looks good and is actually functional, well, that’s just the cherry on top.
