Hi friends! Its week two of the One Room Challenge! Last week I announced that I’ll be redoing my laundry room. This week was all about the demo and planning for how the room will turn out. As a reminder, here’s how the room started out-

floor plan
Above is the original floor plan for the room. The big plan for this room is to stack the washer and dryer so we have a counter for laundry (yes, we fold laundry in the laundry room). The new cabinet will also provide much needed storage for ugly laundry stuff.
Under the window in the narrow space between the doors I’ll be adding a bench with storage. This room also acts like a mini mud room and we’ll store boots and outdoor gear here. In the space on the edges of the bench I’ll probably put laundry baskets since space is so tight in here!
demo
Since the floor plan was finalized, it was time to start demo! The exciting part of demo is that we are raising the ceiling and it already makes the room feel SO much bigger!
While tearing out the ceiling, we made the unfortunate discovery that there used to be a LARGE beehive in our ceiling! There were no live bees (thank goodness). As we further tore everything out, it seems like the old porch turned laundry room was not properly enclosed. There’s lots of gaps in the walls to the outside and we now have the fun task to close those.
You can see the old brick exterior from the back of the house. I haven’t decided for sure what to do about the water heater. I’d LOVE to go tankless (and eliminate most of that eye sore), but I’m not sure if its in the budget.
Because the roof will be significantly taller, I can now to a fun light fixture- yay! The ceilings before were less than 8′ tall so that extra space makes the room feel much more connected to the whole house.
A super exciting development from this week is that we found the original glass for the transom window that looks into the laundry room! It’s going to look so pretty once I get it all cleaned up!
I think it’ll let some much needed light into my dark kitchen. And yay for adding back in some original character!
mood board
inspiration image / pendant light / wallpaper / waterfall art / flamingo decor / washer and dryer / subway tile / faux peonies / decorative box / rainbow art
Ready for the mood board for the room?! I am SO excited for a fancy laundry room- I’ve never had one! The washer and dryer are going to look so pretty! This set is from RC Willey and they’ll be delivered in a few weeks. It’s the high end look I want (and the price is great).
Above the new folding cabinet, I’ll be adding some floating shelves which will be a fun spot for art and decor.
The bottom half of the walls will be tiled in subway tile. I really like the idea of a classic tile in here and I think it is perfect for the age of our home (it was built in 1905). Although subway tile has been popular the last few years, I think it is a look that will stand the test of time.
wallpaper
This week my big decision was what wallpaper to put in the space. I wanted something fun and unexpected but with colors that would look nice with the rest of my house. After going back and forth between a few options, I ended up selecting the Euphemia 5 wallpaper from Milton and King.
I LOVE this wallpaper! It was inspired by a botanical artist named Euphemia Henderson who lived from 1822-1908 in Australia. The circles are portraits of floral arrangements. I adore the mix of old and modern. It feels fresh and I can’t wait to get it up in the room!
Now you know the plan, you’ve seen the fabulous wallpaper and hopefully you’re getting excited to see it all come back together! For now, make sure to check out what everyone else is up to this week!

I love your plan! And that wallpaper is amazing. Love it! I’m following closely! I’m taking on my guest room — color in a dark room, too. Cheers to a great challenge!
