I 100% redid my bedroom in the fall and am still so in love with everything in this room! Except one thing (which I’ll get to in one second). I think the spring is the perfect time to reevaluate what’s working and what isn’t. And it’s definitely the ideal time to refresh and lighten up bedding.
Let’s start with my mistake in this room. That is- I wasn’t using a box spring. The mattress was too low. When I got a new bed in the fall (after the mattress being on the floor for months), I didn’t know if the bed would have the options for the slats to be up high- thus not needing a box spring.
Of course, when I set up the bed and realized that I needed a box spring, it was the day before the room was supposed to be done for the One Room Challenge and it was too late. Face in palm. Instead of getting a box spring when I had some time, I’ve just been putting it off.
Here’s how it looked on a normal day-
before
This is a problem because it looked wrong- the mattress is way below the nightstands when they should all be even. Which made using the night stands painful. And practically, my pillow falls behind the headboard at night. Lol!
I’m hoping you don’t have an issue like this- but seriously! Right now is the perfect time to look around and say “what isn’t working in here?” Because living in a house that works for you, that you love, is worth the extra effort. Especially in your bedroom- this is a space that should be peaceful. So taking the change of the seasons to re-evaluate it definitely a good thing.
spring bedding tips
After grabbing a new box spring, my bed looked SO much better! I was inspired to keep updating things and it was time to switch the heavy winter duvet over to spring bedding. Here’s how I do my bedding-
pom pom pillow / white organic sheet set (no longer available) / white euro sham (no longer available) / striped throw blanket (no longer available) / studio quilt rose
Winter– a duvet cover over a nice thick duvet
Spring/Fall- a quilt with a throw at the bottom of the bed (just in case I get a little chilly). A light duvet insert would also work nicely.
Summer– sheets with the quilt at the bottom of the bed
In my personal opinion, I think you should buy a quality duvet insert and key pieces like a duvet cover, sheets, and a quilt that you will use year after year. Then switch out the throw pillow and throw blanket when you need a little variety or want to go a little more trendy or season specific.
If you need some inspiration for switching over to spring bedding, I have some combinations that would be SO cute for this time of year!
1. studio quilt rose / white euro sham (no longer available) / striped throw blanket / pom pom pillow /
2. on point duvet cover (no longer available) / triangle euro sham / pom pom pillow cover
3. tropical duvet cover / tropical euro sham / cotton throw blanket / embroidered pillow cover (no longer available)
4. studio quilt lake (no longer available) / grid euro sham / blue striped throw blanket / woven shag pillow cover (no longer available)
spring bedroom refresh
Years ago, I got a duvet cover from CStudio Home and have loved using it every winter. It washes well and I love that I can have a thick duvet, but only have to wash the cover. To refresh my spring bedding, I again went with them because I want quality items that I can have for awhile.
The first thing I selected is the gorgeous rose quilt. It has a cross pattern that is stitched in that is subtle and modern. The color is perfection!
I’m a HUGE fan of white sheets- it just makes your house feel like hotel. Clean and crisp! C Studio’s organic sheets are ridiculously soft. I’m a huge fan!
If you want a high end look- always add Euro shams! There is nothing more cozy than reading in bed with a few layers of pillows. I went with coordinating white organic Euro shams(no longer available).
Last up, I added in the fun accents! I adore the pom pom pillow! It’s a happy little exclamation mark on the bed. The throw blanket is for a splash of color/pattern and extra warmth on spring nights.
I have to say, it honestly feels so good to have my bedroom looking pretty for spring. It’s been such a long winter! Literally lightening up the bedding and raising the bed makes a huge difference.
Alright- I have two pieces of homework for you. Number one- go in your room and ask yourself what one change you can make that will make a difference. That will make it function and feel better. Number two- switch up your bedding for spring. Shed those winter layers and celebrate the change of season!
